Imagine you have a very wealthy relative who is tired of listening to you carry on about guns. He or she says any gun you want is yours, you just have to shut up about it in their presence. So here is your chance to talk about your favorite dream gun when price is not a concern at all. Any one (1) gun.

At this moment in time, make mine a Dakota model 10, probably in a mild caliber such as 7X57 or 308, with the prettiest wood on it that I can find. Something that I can carry around with me for most any local game, and admire the walnut when I get bored.

How about you?

RPG-7

Edit: With training rockets. (alternatively, kinetic missiles) Load a heavy-duty model rocket engine, some black powder, and go to town. Recover, rinse, repeat.

dream gun

I'd like a S&W model 19, pinned and recessed, with six inch barrel and Baughman front sight, but chambered in 32-20 or some 30 caliber wildcat. Big enough case to outdo the 32 mag.

I'd like HK to put their money where their mouth was a few years ago and actually make a 1911. Mass production of the .45 auto P7 would also be cool. In a dream world, I could pay millions to have that done.

Hmmm. Probably a full auto Steyr AUG A3. A custom Bushmaster M17 would be pretty great. Im sure there is some AR out there. I suppose an HK USC would be pretty awesome too

I want a pistol the size of the palm of my hand that can shoot .22 cal to 20mm ammo, that has a 50 round mag, and a sight system connected to my eyes. A range of 25 miles, with pin point accuracy

If you say this doesn't exist, I'd say, it's my Dream Gun.

Tell ya'll the one my family gets sick and tired of hearing about... the one in my mind... it could be built on a Mauser 98 action, or that of an '03 or '03A3... It'd be chambered for .308Winchester with a 20" medium weight barrel. I'd mount a Lyman 17A on the front. The rear would be either a Lyman 57 or Williams Foolproof with target knobs. That's unless I found out an M-14 front end work work real well there as I rather like that sight picture too. The walnut stock would be slick, as in no checkering, and rubbed with TruOil for about ten or twelve coats. All the steel would be parkerized a charcoal gray. I had previously thought of using a USGI steel buttplate, but I think now I'd use a decelorator pad.

Otherwise, I can't think of anything I can't just find on gunbroker.com or in a local shop.

Does the rich relative have the pull to get you an NFA weapon? If so, then it would be a tough call between some sort of real Soviet AK variant (I'd probably go for a clean '60s AKM (fixed stock) or RPK-S (sidefolding paratrooper stock), or if the eccentric relation is willing to pay for parts, ammo, and maintenance, an original MG42. Or an StG.44. Or a Bren Gun. Okay, just one, I take the RPK-S.

If it's something that doesn't exist, but would be interesting if it did, maybe an HK P2000SK in .45acp.

If only non-NFA weapons are permitted, then I'd take a NIB HK P7M8, or a clean original WWII-production 1911A1. Exactly the sort of thing I'd love to have, and probably could afford if I really had to, but probably won't. But if crazy Great-Aunt Gladys was footing the bill...

Overall, the RPK-S is still tops.

I'm assuming this is for one's own private enjoyment, not for resale value, investment potential, or historical significance. Because in that case I'll take the Hitler suicide Walther. :)

This thread is going to get very lengthy. I'll add my two cents after I've made tonight's sloppy joes.

I built my dream rifle: a Montana Rifle Company long action magnum in stainless lefthand; massive, fluted, 31-inch Krieger barrel (with Shrewd muzzle brake) contoured in my own design, and a Richards Micro-fit thumbhole target stock with a three-inch beavertail fore-end. The butt has two recoil reducers in it. It weighs 18 pounds loaded with scope mounted and three rounds in the magazine. It's polished stainless and black/gray laminate. It's a very pretty rifle. Caliber is 300WSM. I have pictures taken with a 35mm camera and subsequently scanned them for posting, but the detail is so grainy and pixelated that I junked the idea. When I find the right digital camera, I'll take some more pictures and figure out how to put them up.

My dream .308.

.308 Winchester, 22 inch Kreiger barrel, controlled round feed reciever (don't like Mauser safeties, though), bolt action of course, hot blued but not shiny, in a stock of claro walnut with an aluminum bedding block and wearing a set of conetrol rings (30 mm). Oh, detachable 5 round magazine fed.

I thought of a few others.

Micro Uzi.
American 180!
Quad-mount M2!!!! Autoweapons.com used to have a quad-mount, complete with 4 M2s, all mint, still in the packing crates... but it's sold now. :(

If no NFA, I think I've already got my dream gun. A Glock 23 with 100% supported chamber, and a smooth, revolver-like trigger.

HHmmm. In the assault weapons catagory would have to be an STG 44 (and a crate of ammo). MG would have to be MG42 with the anti-aircraft tripod. If NFA are out of the question then I'd have to jump on board with stoky and say H&H Royal Double Rifle, but in 700 H&H. Great prarie dog set up.:D

If it could be anything (ie post '86 NFA), I would want an HK MP-5/10 A2 , and a crap load of mags, and 10mm loading equipment, and a large property (and residence) in a select fire/ assault weapon friendly state.

If I had to stick to regular guns, ditto the property and a DSA SA-58 Standard, with an accessory para stock.

A full-auto integrally silenced Bushmaster M17S bullpup, with the following changes...

PG reshaped to that of an Hk G3
Carrying handle removed, replaced with a 1/2" tall Pic rail
Gen III night-vision scope mounted to rail, with built-in rangefinder and GPS plotter... iron "back-up" sights are USGI peep & post style
Reshaped, more ergonomic buttpad
Charging handle moved to right side of gun, possibly mounted to the bolt
Single-point sling

:scrutiny:

Or, if the gun has to be real, I'll take a Browning BAR M1918A3, with: fifty magazines, sling, bipod, flash suppressor, and a nice leather/ velvet hard case with sterling silver appointments. Full auto.

And last, but not least, 20k rounds of new-production, non-corrosive .30-06.

while the steyr aug is mighty tempting, i think an omega III rechamered for the super hot 5mmSmc. 4700 fps at the muzzle, uses 30% less powder than a 22/250.

Guns Guns Guns

I'd like to have an M-14 rechambered in .45-70 with 20 round magazines. I'd also like to have a Beretta Storm .45ACP that has the magazine well to accept Glock 28 round Hi-caps. I'd also like a 10-shot revolver in .45LC that can also accept moon clips in order to shoot .45ACP, I talk about this one a lot because if it ever came to pass, I would move heaven and earth to get my hands on one.
