A gun-shopping hypothetical

We are thinking of a couple of mil-surps--already have a 91/30, but would like a couple more.
M1 Carbine.
We need a .22 handgun, desperately.
Ruger Marks 1-3, Browning Buckmark... and little Beretta 21A is also a fun little gun.
We need a small carry gun.
Beretta 21A, again. Very light, very small. PPKs are also available, along with Kel-Tecs, S&W snubbies (I've got a liking for the bodyguard model), Glocks, Khars... I'd go with either a bodyguard-model Smith or a PPK.
I want a bolt action .22 as well.
CZ's model is supposed to be one of the finest .22s out there for the price.

"Needs" always outweigh "Wants", and $1500 bucks doesn't go very far. So a tough question indeed.

So in order of your "need".

A used .22 Ruger Mark model (?) or a Single Six. Bearcat maybe anyone? Taurus would also be a good bang for the buck in that caliber.

Small carry gun? S&W 642 period. Hard to find used for a reason. Spend the money once, and never complain later, in the long run you'll save. If collectibility is a concern get one without the "lock". Either way money well spent.

Doesn't leave you much left over though. I'd skip the "milsurp" rifles at this point unless you know exactly what you are looking for including ammo to feed it. Trust me, it's a gamble. I'll leave it at that.

Just before deer season, 30-30's seem to breed on the racks year after year
traded in for "a better gun". Come next year how many times have I heard "I wish I wouldn't have sold it". I'd choose a Marlin for duribility, a Winchester for collectibillity. Either way a good choice. I've seen them as low as $250.

I doubt you'll have much if any $ left over. If you do, I'd spend it on ammo or range time.

Just my opinion.

:)
