I am a Wal-Mart store manager Questions?

I thought we were talking about manufacturers here, not retail competitors.

What does WM manufacture again?

Once again, Please keep this thread about firearms. I don't want to discuss global economics, competition, wages, or any other non-firearm related issues on here. That's not why I started this thread!

Steve,
Thanks for your insight and answers to questions. This was a helpful and interesting thread until it got drug through the mud.

So will WM special order a handgun?

Maybe WM should continue to sell firearms in all their stores as an incentive to keep their customers happy, regardless of slim profit margin. Lots of stores do this; it's called loss leading. Like when the local food store sells 12 packs of soda for $2 and puts a huge sign in the window to make sure you know all about it.

Hey! Ever wonder why WM doesn't exclusively stock Norinco?

I also wondered if they would special order a handgun. Could we get an answer please?

Both 22's I've bought at WM were horribly defective.

I've bought a shotgun and a .22 from wally world. My brother and friend have both bought .22s from wally world. All have worked fine.

Heya there STEVERINO!

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hey Steverino:

This is pretty cool that you're doing this.

Okay, in Denver I went to buy a box of 12 guage in 00 Buckshot, and the guy there says:

"This is all I got!" He pulls 1 box of #6 shot and one box in #7.5 shot and that's all there is in 12 guage

So, what I would like to know is, if they don't have it in stock, can they special order a case of this or that for me?:what::what::what::what::what:

several of the questions I wanted to ask have been but the OP is replying via PM so no answers for me.

Oh Great Wal Mart Oracle, please let me ask this of you:

I didn't think this warranted a thread of its own but it struck me as stupid and funny.

I was in WM last evening to pick up a few things. One of the things I bought was a plastic ammo box, 50 rounds, med rifle. (Have to start loading up some more 600 yd ammo) When I went through the self-checkout line, the ammo box was the first thing I scanned. It beeped and said I needed appoval to proceed. The girl came up and approved it and it didn't bug me about the IMR 4064 or the PowderBlast I also bought. I just thought it was funny in a ridiculous sort of way that buying a plactic box required approval at checkout.

What is Walmart's reasoning behind this? Would selling me the ammo box make them complicit if I filled that box with ammo and took it with me on a killing rampage?

Thank you, Oh Great Blue Vested One With The Yellow Smiley Face.

Thanks for answering all these Wal-Mart questions. My question is, and sorry if it's already been asked, why does Wal-Mart only sell firearms and ammo between certain hours? Is it all Wal-Marts? Is it because only certain people are allowed to handle the firearms?

Thanks

As a non Wal-Mart person, I think I have the answer to why some store (at least here) sell firearms and some don't. Around here, the Super Wal-Marts all have firearms. Any one that's not a "super" doesn't. I suspect it has more to due with available floor space and staffing than anything else.

I didn't have time this morning to read the whole thread so maybe it's been addressed.

OK Steve,
I've held back. I tried to keep this gun related. I've kept my cool. BUT NO MORE!!
How come every Wal-Mart in America has a bazillion cash registers in the front of the store with only 2 to 6 open? :D:cuss::banghead::D
Do you realize that that forces me to go to the sporting goods checkout and grab a box of ammo to justify using that cash register  Do you know how much ammo I have stockpiled just because Wal-Mart WON'T OPEN CASH REGISTER LANES! If I spent less time in those long lines, I'd have more time to go shooting!! :neener:

The best and only good service I have ever recieved at a walmart sporting goods counter was from an 18 yr. old young lady who was obviously very comfortable around firearms and knew the difference between shot and slugs and also where it was kept in the back since there was none on the shelf as advertised. The brain dead idiot assigned to the dept. was unwilling to even check to see if there was any in back, said it wasn't his job to stock shelves. The toung lady wasn't even assigned to sporting goods, just happened by to go in the back and overheard him when he told me about his negative job description. I got both their names and made appropriate comments in writing to the duty manager, which took another hour since he was not anywhere to be found. Go ahead, ask me if I shop WM.

When I worked at Meijer, our system would do stuff like this as well. From what I could get from upper management was this. The same approval needed would have popped up no matter which of those gun associated items you scanned first. Now, since it's already been approved, any other item in the same transaction needing the same approval is not prompted again.

Without knowing this, of course it would make you wonder, but it all makes sense as far as the approval process is concerned, regardless of the item it flags for.

Walmart may take the same approach.

Walmarts does have some of the best prices. But I also support my local area as much as I can , Walmarts is a little ways down the road now. But I ll still pay a buck more and shop 1/2 mile down the road. Not worth the fuel costs unless your stocking up on things.

Thanks for offering up yourself to the comments on here, and in turn answering some of them.
