I think my Springfield Armory OD Green Armory Kote™ 1911 is pretty enough when I OC :D But that is just my opinion......

So THAT'S why Glocks and other plastic guns were invented! It's all starting to make sense now, with the advent of popular CCW laws. If they're concealed, doesn't matter if they're ugly.

I once got a good piece of advice from two..."festive" gentlemen in Atlanta: "sweetie, the holster has to match the shoes. Otherwise, it's total Faux Pas!"

:)

I've heard, in Texas, that you can carry around a shotgun, as long it's pointed up, or in some other non-threatening direction....Is this true? If so, I'd walk around with an 830, or 870 or something. I really don't think ANYONE would mess with you in that case :D

So here's another way of looking at the same thing. I would rather carry open as a deterent. By my thinking, CC increases your chances of being targeted, as you appear to be an unarmed person.

Interviews with convicts show that they find easier targets when they suspect someone might be armed.

Basic fact is, criminals chose those who appear to be the easiest target. If that ends up being you, you were doing everything else wrong to begin with.

In TX, you can carry a long gun pretty much anywhere. Not the best idea, but generally legal.

IMHO, if you carry open in most places, people will call the cops on you and that is no fun even if open carry is legal. That is the conditioning of our society in most places. Why not get a CCW, or as they call it in KY, a CCDWL

For some, that is exactly the point of open carry. To try and show people that guns aren't inherantly bad or evil and that normal everyday folks own them and carry them.

While what you say about how most have been conditioned is true, it certainly WONT change by concealed carry.

If the Gays can campaign for tolerance and acceptance with the "We're here and we're queer" tactic of being open and honest, than it should be no different for guns and those who choose to carry them.

So let me get this straight.... All your guns are ugly so you're against open carry, even for those of us who have pretty guns. Its not my fault you don't have a classic beauty like a Hi-Power with custom-made silver-inlaid rosewood grips. Sux being you. :p

do the last 2 posts leave anyone craving a BHP? man those are some nice lookin pistols!
sorry for the drift.

it doesn't matter what your carry piece looks like as long as goes bang when you want it to imho. it doesn't hurt if goes bang reliably and looks good doing it though.

Hey, I've open carried some pretty ugly guns. A beater topbreak from the 1880's, for example. Ugly guns are fine with me. All guns that work (had to do something to exclude the Jennings/etc. garbage ;)) are welcome! :D

I'm really looking forward to getting my Colt Walker and open carrying that though...

Get a single action six-gun, in a low-slung, tied-down gun-slinger holster and a bandolero full of ammo. Open carry with an attitude!!!;);););)

I don't care for Open Carry either. Because if something happens, odds are the guys carrying the guns are going to be the first target. My purpose for Concealed Carry is to keep the bad guys guessing. I am still trying to wrap my head around what the purpose of Open Carry is. Yeah, I hear "education", and "it's legal", and it supposedly serves as a visible deterrent, but for the fence sitter, or part-time hunter it appears "In your face" and it can send a message of "look at me, I am special".

To me, discretion and an image of competent responsibility are the best weapons we have in keeping our rights where they are and shoving back further encroachment by the Anti-Gun propaganda. I just don't see how Open Carry can support that.

Having said that, Open Carry is legal in VA and I support the purposes of keeping it legal. I WILL fight to keep it legal. I feel that there are too many restrictions on the books already and that anything that further restricts our rights needs to be up and smashed.

So, for the folks that Open Carry, continue on. You will find a brother at your side when support is needed, just don't expect me to understand it.

I don't like open carry, because I don't want to know who's carrying. Probably a lot of people that I don't think are smart enough to use a rake.

It would be pretty hard to conceal a rake, unless it has a sawed-off handle

The rake ought to have a nice wooden handle if you're going to open carry it - not one of them ugly yellow fiberglass handles ;)

Clearly, the personal tools we carry, such as say a cellular telephone, do lend themselves to a bit of aesthetic fancy. Consider the aforementioned example of the cellphone, available in 100000000^(A bunch) different colors, or with aftermarket faceplates, or with custom LED lights, or with all sorts of holsters to carry it in.

Your phone may be hot pink with Iron Man stickers all over it and custom LEDs that flash in green, blue and red with a custom ringtone for each person who might call you.

My personal phone is a plain gray color in a plain black case. It usually just goes "buzzzzzzz" instead of actually ringing.

The point? Both are a tool and there's really nothing wrong with carrying either one of them. We can make all the jabs we want about being too gaudy or too boring, but it doesn't really matter.

Carry the nickle plated SAA in a custom tooled leather holster, or the Glock in kydex. There's nothing wrong with either. I wish I lived in a country where this poster's complaint was one that was taken as seriously as who's the best professional sports team or what show should we watch.

In fact the main reason I support open carry is we need to get people used to the idea that firearms are normal, everyday tools, and are as diverse as the people who use them.

Honestly, there are alot of people that I personally wouldn't want to open/concealed carry, because alot of people don't use their heads, won't take responsibility for their actions and don't have any common sense about when it's a good idea and when it isn't. To a lot of them it would just be an attention getter and if they were ever inclined to use the weapon could they use it responsibly in the heat of the moment. Things are different when you are not on your own property and the general public is all around. I also don't want to make a law that says you can't carry, but I do wish people would use intelligent discretion and be responsible. Many of these people drive around in 4000lb projectiles with one hand on a phone and the other on a cold drink..... Who's driving??

Happy Shooting!!!!

Yeah, because, as we all know, whenever something bad happens the bad guys shoot all of the police officers first.

Give me a break.

Don't you know that open carry could actually discourage criminal behavior? It is a wonderful thing to live in a state where I am free to choose how I carry. Open carry is downright liberating. I feel sorry for those folks who don't have the freedom to enjoy it.

Yup. It may be legal to open-carry a machine gun, since I don't know of any laws forbidding it. Pistols, however, must be concealed. Next legislative session may change that...
