Supply and demand.

Yep.....don't blame PSA, blame your fellow gun owners/shooters. I surprised the government/manufacturers conspiracy theories aren't poppin' up all over the internet like during the last two "bannic" buying sprees. Folks want to thump their chest about the 2nd Amendment and the American way(read as capitalism), until it hits them personally in the pocket book. The day our governor announced he was easing travel restrictions, gas went up 80 cents a gallon. Those folks that went by the station 10 minutes before when the price was $.99 with an empty gas tank, were pissed. Seems to be the same scenario here.

Thing was....the Obama administration has nuttin' to do with it. It was us.

Yes, I remember a short video clip with Steve Hornady.

And at approximately the 1:02min interval is the quote. He gave the basic rundown, and the 22LR shortage was due to ''comsumer demand.'' Ppl were simply buying all that was ever made.

HOWEVER that said, please hear this. For around 15 years now, various school shooting, elections, speeches, news releases, natural disasters a few added fro flavor & color i.e. Katrina...ALL 2A sales and subsequent prices raising and drops, are 100% politically driven. Yes before that was some, but, it's really ramped up more recently IMHO.

Your version of the 2A sport whether 3gun, trap, hunting,SD, or collecting, is directly tied to politics.

$289 was likely a 10 year record low.

I don't think there's any grounds for being "disappointed", unless you can find it someplace else a lot cheaper than the $420 price.

People have suddenly become a lot more interested in guns lately. Even people who would have never considered it. My boss is politically supportive of the Pro 2A position, but has stated numerous times that he personally would never have a gun in his house. Now even he is saying "I think I should go buy a gun".

During my lifetime, I have seen several shortages along with gradual increase in price over the decades - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/where-are-there-reloading-components-on-sale.707473/

For the past several years, we have seen decades low prices on firearms, ammunition and related accessories along with reloading components and I told everyone to stock up as likely, these low prices weren't going to stay low forever, regardless of political climate as there are other factors such as cost of materials, production and transportation cost, etc.

If you stocked up during past several years when prices were low, great.

If you did not, another option to consider is reloading as component prices have not gone up or not by much and components are still available, for now. And if you don't need ammunition right at the moment, perhaps waiting until after the November election for Black Friday sales may be a good option.

Exactly. It wasn't that long ago that brass 223 was pushing $600. Getting it for under $300 was a steal.

From what I have seen, every online dealer has gone up. Most of them had their inventories cleaned out and the cost of replacing it went up. I understand raw materials prices have increased. I don't consider myself old, but there have been a couple of "ammo shortages" in the last 15 years. It happens. The good thing is more people are buying gus and gun and ammo makers that were struggling the last few years suddenly are selling everything they can make.

Buy It Cheap, Stack It Deep. Remember that later when prices come back down.

Evidently PSA believes that the previous price plus free shipping for that item was unsustainable for whatever reason. The bread and butter money maker items for them, their in house build AR-15 rifles and especially pistols, are all but sold out and have been for over two months. Until they get that production on track again they still have to make payroll and keep the doors open. Shaving free shipping off some items and adding $$ to others may be the only thing that keeps them half azz competitive and in business but that's just my opinion.
As a consumer I can ignore their prices or, as I did last week, buy 5 ETS Glock 31 rd. aftermarket magazines. Buy 5, $74, and you get free shipping. I've bought from PSA quite a few times and have always been happy with the exchange.

Their AR15 builds and pistol builds have been in and out of stock. When they go in stock they sell out in a couple of hours.

I don't think anyone is surprised at PSA. It's pretty well know their prices fluctuate, even in the "good times". They are also painfully slow to ship, but when I do buy something from them it's typically a good deal.

I'm not really upset at retailers for bumping up prices right now. I'm more upset that I didn't have the cash back in January, I've been slowly stocking up on primers, brass, and powder through the winter, and I was waiting for my annual bonus in March to stock up on bulk 223, 9mm, and .357 bullets. Now I'm sitting on less than 300 bullets in each caliber, although I have plenty of factory ammo. This would just be a perfect time to get some reloading done as I'm stuck working from home.

Politics, CNN and Fear-The Power of Fear

You best include Fox news, The NRA and Gun Forums like THR and others to that list. The gun/ammo shortage created in 2008 was not driven by anything the President said or did, but by folks on gun forums, the NRA and anti-Obama media. Plain and simple. The sky was gonna fall. They kept telling us that he was going to implement executive orders and ban all guns and ammo forever. So the panic began. Gun shops and ammo retailers help spread the rumor. But the government was buying up ammo just to keep it from us....better buy what you can, all you can. ARs are gonna be banned, better get several while you can. next year when there isn;t any.....they will be worth their weight in gold! Guess what happened? No significant anti-gun legislation for 8 years. In fact, Obama signed only two major laws that address how guns are carried in America, and both actually expand the rights of gun owners. One of the laws allows gun owners to carry weapons in national parks; that law took effect in February 2012 and replaced Ronald Reagan's policy that required guns to be locked in glove compartments of trunks of cars that enter national parks. Another gun law signed by Obama allows Amtrak passengers to carry guns in checked baggage, a move that reversed a measure put in place after 9-11. All that fear and panic based on false and incorrect assumptions, spread by who? Wasn't CNN. This latest shortage/panic buying is no different than those folks at WalMart buying all the TP a month ago........foolishness. Don't like it....... then don't add to it. Don't come on a gun forum and whine that everything is gone and what is left, is expensive. Guess what....that will soon be gone too because you just scared someone else with deeper pockets than yours.

Lol, Like I said, a combination of all. . And I am not whining about a darn thing. I accepted the shortage a few months ago and like I said, I prepared for it years ago. I have plenty of ammo. And buying more all the time. No problem.

Your probably right. I usually browse their site just a couple of times a week for accessories but I also look at their complete AR builds jut to see what's up. Just my opinion but I would think because of depleted inventory the sales of their in house AR pistol builds would have to be a trickle now as compared to this time last year.
