I carry a Ruger LCP when not wearing a gun on my hip.

Well this past week I bought the new LC9 (about 20% larger than the LCP and in 9mm).

I really like this gun. - IMHO Ruger has hit another home run.

I can and do carry it in my front jeans pocket (it fills the pocket full, but is comfortable , very comfortable in baggy cargo shorts).

I still use a DeSantis Nemesis Holster for it (only bigger).

It has good sights and I ran my 1st 100 rounds through it (all I've had time to put through it ) w/o a burp.

Better go look at one, you won't be sorry if you decide to buy one.

Oh, I intend to. But, I keep hearing about folks having problems with the front sight shifting position etc. What's that all about?

Ruger LC9

Since you've got one, and no gun shop in my area has one yet, can you tell me if the safety or the mag release are ambidexterous? I'm a southpaw, and a right hand safety doesn't help me much.

I already have an SR9C, and bothe safety and mag release function from either side, but the LC9 looks like a nice shooter.

Thanks!

If the trigger is anything like the Kel-Tec PF-9 it seems to be based on (as the LCP was based on the P3AT) the safety is like the one on the S&W Bodyguard 380 -- totally superfluous -- these triggers are not going to be pulled unless you mean it, much like a DA revolver.

I bought mine Feb 18, $400 OTD. I've shot more than 800 rounds of mixed ammo, from 6 yards to 52 yards. Totally reliable and very accurate.
It's replaced the .380 pistols for pocket carry.

I have an LCP. I like the look of the LC9, but what is up with the pop-up loaded chamber indicator???
S/A's XD series has them and now the LC9 has it. I don't like the whole concept of it. Give me a little peep hole like my Kimber and M&P, or the little extention on the extractor like my G26 has.

20% larger? I'd say it's almost twice the overall size of the LCP in terms of volume. It's certainly almost twice the weight empty: 9 oz for the LCP and 17 for the LC9. It's closer to a Glock 19 (21 oz) in weight than the LCP.

How are you folks pocket carrying that thing? I was very disappointed to see how big it was in person, and the manual safety is off-putting too.

I wear Dickies short sleeve coveralls all the time. A 2 inch S&W J Frame is too big for my pockets, so I carry the small .380 pistols.

Now I can, and do, pocket carry the LC9.

Why is the manual safety a big deal to some folks? Many of my semi autos have a manual safety. Generally I do not like the thumb safety. No big deal, I just don't use them.

I think Ruger add that and other junk, like the magazine "safety", lawyer lock and thumb safety to be able to sell the gun in the anti-gun states.

Personally, the magazine safety and lawyer lock are coming off the gun pretty quick. The LCI and thumb safety don't bother me.

I did E-mail Ruger and expressed my dislike of those "safety" features and the fact Ruger is too cheap to include two magazines.
But the added "safety" junk is not a deal breaker for me. I'm very pleased with the reliability and accuracy of the gun.

We shot the gun yesterday and will shoot it again today. Probably before the week is out the gun will have fired over a thousand rounds of a mixed variety of ammunition.

52 yard target. Standing. Two hands. 49 of 50 rounds.:)

@ RUT
I've not heard that and frankly they are just now showing in gun stores - I kinda doubt it IMHO

@ FMJMIKE
$369 at my local gun store.

@ armedwalleye

It does not have ambi safety or mag release - I'm a lefty too and I just carry it with the safety off like my CZ's Sig's, and of course my LCP didn't even have a safety on it.

I always carry it in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster - it can't go off.

@ wally - there is nothing about the gun that isn't much better than the Kel-Tec - I owned a P -11 and could not get rid of it quick enough.

@ MrBill120 - I put a snap cap in the gun just so everyone can see the loaded chamber indicator - the LCI is very small - it can't snag or scratch anything.

@ Mr.Davis - Your smokin some funny cigarettes - the 20% to 25% comes from about 10 professional reviews I've read and my holding both guns side by side. - The Glock 19 is gigantic compared to the gun. A Glock 26 (which I own ) is even larger that this LC9 and the 26 is a lot smaller than the 19.

@ M2 Carbine - nice shooting - I'm off to the range again in a minute.

Have fun.

I think it's an alternative to that 26, , but still for those people who desire a safety if will sell. I picked up 40 caliber "slim" which has many of the same features, only because I was trading only. And that was available "new" and I wanted a small 40. It has similar features and size, it also is the only gun I own with a safety on it. But if you leave it off, what's the difference? Since no one touches my guns but me, that dosen't concern me. And if you did decide to put one of these in your belt, "for an emergency", you could apply the safety, "say in the car", until it was no longer needed. I find that having a pistol in a holster, or pocket, while seated is indeed awkward. If you really needed it quicklly, you would be in trouble. Most folks don't switch to a cross draw, or horizontal holster made for seated use.
Especially for us older gents who may have physical limitations due to arthritis or weight. Even though I stay in shape, there are days that bending to a position in the car where I could actually get to my gun fast when needed is hard to do. If someone is walking up alongside your vechicle, "car jacking", you don't want to be wasting time trying to get your gun out of an IWB, holster when you may need to extend your body to get it out. Pulling out a sub compact, with a safety from your waist band with your shirt over it is indeed a time saver, and could save more than time. I never felt good about leaning on a pistol with a round in the chamber even though I have done it many times, here in Fl until we get open carry, we still have to cover the gun, so it would make sense to have a carry gun that had this feature for driving or seated activities. Right now seated with my LCP in my pocket, it still requires both hands to get it out fast.

Well I took it to the range again today and everyone put another 100 rounds through it.

I put 50 through it - then the guy beside me asked if I'd mind if he shot it.

We tested it with fmj and hallow points - all worked well.

Then at least 6 other guys had to shoot it.

One guy was an amazing shot with it. He pulled his first shot - focused and put the next seven in the 10 ring.

No one else did near that well .. certainly not me. :D

This shows a comparison of the LC9 to the LCP, size-wise. For those interested

How's the recoil? The Kel Tec PF9 bites:cuss:. How does recoil compare to the PF9?

I agree that it's about 20% longer and taller than the LCP, but if you drop both in a jug of water, I'll bet the LC9 would displace twice as much liquid.

And like I said, it's closer to polymer service pistol weight than LCP weight.

I'm glad you like the pistol. It looks like it has plenty of advantages over the LCP. I just wish it was a pocket pistol in the sense of fitting my wardrobe.

thanks for the info on pocket carry.

My aversion to manual safeties on a carry gun is that even if I don't use it, there's still the risk of it flipping onto safe without my knowledge. Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No.

I was at Cabelas(Rogers MN) today asking about this gun. They salesman said they had 19 of them in stock but were not allowed to sell any until the 17th of March due to an agreement they have with Ruger. He did go in back and bring one out for me to look at, at which point 3 other people noticed and everyone wanted some "touchy feely" time with it. It is quite thin but fit my hand quite well I thought. I will rent one at the range and wait a few months to see if any bugs appear like the LCP had when first released before pulling the trigger on one myself.

I can't imagine what that's all about, as my LGS sells them as fast as they come in. March 17th indeed!!

There's a home mailer ad from Cabella that I got in the mail yesterday, advertising the LC9 at $399.

Didn't say any thing about when they could deliver them.

As I said earlier my gun shop sold all three that they had received in one day.

@ RUT

Your right Cabella's and Cheaper Than Dirt are rarely the best price.

But you can find some great prices at Cabella's "used" guns.

And when Cheaper Than Dirt has a certain gun (that you happen to want) on sale.

Their regular prices are not so good.
