I didn't know about this Version of the Ruger American

Is the Mini-30 magazine staggered like the STANAG?
Yes it is. In fact the two magazines are very similar, except the mini 30 mag hooks through a small hole on the mag front on a short pin in the receiver and rocks in like an ak mag. At least on a mini 30. Looks similar on the bolt gun too.

hope the .223 and 300 BO versions follow. I'll likely order one when they do!

They there's a chance they'll adapt the action to feed from STANAG magazines, which would be pretty cool. I was eyeballing the Magpul Hunter stock and it's conversion to AICS mags.

I like it. I just looked at Ruger American Rifles at Cabelas a few days ago. I didn't see it on the ruger site and am wondering if it has a .308 barrel or a .311 barrel. Since it is listed as a 7.62x39 I am guessing it has the .311 barrel. I am really interested in this rifle.

I will have one of these. This would make a great truck gun and just plain old fun desert shooter. I had a CZ for a while, but could never get used to the safety. It was a great gun, but just did not grow on me. I know that comparing a CZ 527 to a Ruger American is a stretch, but for me a 7.62x39 bolt gun would be more for utility than beauty.

I have a cz527 and I love it, but a ruger would still have a place since the mags are easy to get and scratching it up a bit wouldn't be a crime. I very well may need to rethink a few projects and just get thus instead. These would make a cool "scout" style rifle...

That is a neat rifle but man... that stock!!

Reminds me of those folding baby changing tables in the bathroom at Wal-Mart. Such a cool rifle needs a better looking stock!!

CZ needs to make their 527 accept AK mags... then it would be perfect!

Boyde's makes much nicer looking laminate stocks for the American that retail at $144. Might be something to consider once the sting of spending money on a rifle/optic has worn off.

Yeah good Idea, Jason! Only the the American series is missing is a nice wood stock, but of course being an economy rifle factory wood is probably out of the question.

I just sent an email off to Ruger inquiring about the bore diameter. I'll report back if I get an answer.
I Just got an email from Ruger telling me that the information requested was proprietary information, but they thanked me for my interest in their product.

In other words they haven't decided on it yet, or they don't want to chase off buyers by making a big deal about it. I almost hope its a 308 bore, it would be so much easier to find bullets for reloading that way...

Uh. Wut?

Lol how is the diameter of my bore "proprietary information"?

I'd prefer a 308 bore as well, but I'd assume they will go .310 or whatever it is, because lawyer.

It's bad here (please don't suggest moving, it's not an option presently).

I wasn't about to.

The way things are there now, I couldn't imagine moving to California. I like my Mini-14 with the Choate pistol grip stock too much to want to give it up just for a higher salary, better weather, and (believe it or not) cheaper housing costs.

(some totally unsubstantiated rumors held that these were originally intended for a .308 mini 14 but the rifle would not stand up under the recoil).

You're right about that being totally unsubstantiated.

Just like the totally unsubstantiated rumors that the Mini-30 was actually designed at the behest of and with financial support from the CIA because they wanted to supply untraceable weapons to the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan fighting the Soviets. Yeah, I'd laugh about it, too, except my best friend's neighbor claimed to be the COTR on the project.

Awesome! Not a fan of the super short barrel but for those who will use a suppressor I understand why. Otherwise, it's great to see Ruger respond like this. I think the gun will be hugely popular, esp. with the Mini-30 mags

I just saw the new rifle on Bud's. $443 shipped to your FFL. I would expect the price to settle down by a few more bucks over the next month or so.

For that price, I think Ruger has another winner. It's kind of crazy how they can go into a firearms business that's completely saturated and mature, and still churn out new products that people want to buy.
