I went to the range to test out a few subcompacts and left with a g26. I shot a g26, sr9c, m&p9c, and a xd9sc. For me the xd9sc and g26 were the best two of the bunch with the ruger not feeling great in my hand and the m&p having the most vague trigger that I can recall shooting (how s&w can produce such a phenomenal gun with such a crappy trigger is beyond me).

I already ordered some GAP floorplates and now I need to figure out what holster to use.

Yep.
I shoot 26s almost as well as 19s, and shoot xdscs almost as well as service models.
Great tools in a bit smaller package.

Glocks shoot better in the hand than they feel in the hand. I think a lot of people hold a Glock and say, "no way."

I'll admit, a Glock does not FEEL like the best gun in my hand. But, it SHOOTS like none other. Just about any Sig feels better than a Glock in my hand. But, the Glock's low bore axis is the bomb.

I definitely don't drink the cool aid myself but glock is hard to deny. They work as good as any and better than most.
It is the one firearm that I have the least affection for yet likely the 1st I would reach for if needed. Just can't warm up to them although they are tops when it comes to utility.

Good choice Brian, stock up on mags. Also get some G17-19 mags for it too. Not for carry per se, but for range and barter.

they make a filler for the 26 that helps with the 17 mags makes a nice package

I had previously shot a couple of Glocks, mostly the G23 and didn't shoot it well. Of course, that was shooting it along with a Colt 1911, H&K (can't remember which one), a tricked out 637, and my own buttery smooth Colt Police Positive.

Couple weeks ago, a new friend offered to let me shoot his Glock 20... love at first shot!

Not in my future, though. I don't reload and can't afford that gun's diet.

Those M&P guns fit my hand like a glove. I wish I'd bought one along side my XDM's back when I had the extra cash around. Now I won't be able to get one for a looooong time.

Hopefully everybody is writing their reps so that when I can get one the capacity won't be nerfed.

The 3rd gen g26 does not fit my hand near as good as the gen4. The m&p did feel good in the hand but the trigger was not good. I will not spend $500 on a gun that I would feel the need to drop in $100 worth of apex parts to make the gun the way it should have been built.

I do think that the xdsc is often overlooked as a good compact gun, you don't see lots of them out and about. It shot great, good trigger, and has an excellent price.

The ruger is very thin in the grip but it did not fit my hand very well. I have huge palms with short fingers so there are many guns that just don't feel right. The sr9c does shoot well, the sights are like small target sights, but the grip felt odd.

I just got a Glock 26 and love it. It's my first Glock. When I got my first centerfire pistol about a decade ago, it came down to a 1911 or a G21. I had shot both of them and liked them both, but the 1911 at the time just seemed more like what a gun should be in my mind. Now I hardly ever shoot my 1911 anymore nor do I care for it that much, and I wonder what my gun cabinet would be like if I'd started with that G21.

I'm contemplating a G19 or G23 as my next purchase. Maybe even a Glock 32 since I would likely get an aftermarket barrel for the G23 anyway to allow me to shoot lead reloads with a bit more confidence.

I did almost the same. Shot the G26, SR9c, and XDm9c but I walked out with the XDm instead. It was a tough choice between the G26 and XDm for me, but the SR9 was at a disadvantage from the beginning because I really didn't want a thumb safety.

Incidentally, 2 other people, my brother and my good friend, have both bought an XDm9c because they liked mine so much after shooting it. I told them both they should rent a G26 to compare because they are so similar, but neither one of them did.

It gets better the more you shoot it. Though I agree it's not a good trigger to start out with.

Also lots of guys drop the APEX parts in...would be nice if S&W did that at the factory!

I first sipped the Kool-aid last year, after three decades of 1911s. Bought a G30, and a 34, and a 21, and a 26, and a 36.... sure is tasty, once you figure out how to hold it!

Yes, they're ugly, plain, blocky, plastic weapons. Ugly as a 3lb drilling hammer, and about as reliable. My 26 is amazing, fast and accurate.

My wife has a M&P 9c, also a good gun. The more we shoot it, the better it gets.
