I feel like I got a good one

OK, I got some time to get to the range on Friday and brought four CZ’’s; in 9mm the Shadow 2, the new 75BD (and it was new based on the barrel-bluing wear after shooting), the SP-01, and in .45 the 97B.

I used 115 gr fmj instead of my usual 124 gr, and my Shadow 2 shot low at 12 yds. (It was spot-on with the 124 gr.) I learned that the rear sight wasn’t adjusting up, which is a real bummer since it ran me nearly $1,400 bucks to bring home. I needed to alter my hold a bit to put shots where I wanted them. (I will be reaching out to CZ on Monday :(.)

The 75BD was great. A tad more recoil was felt over the Shadow 2, which was expected since it is a lighter gun. It still is uber-controllable and the fixed 3-dot sights were regulated well. There is no gun that fits my hands better than these guns, and the Cajun Gun Works spring kit made the DA and SA trigger pulls amazing. (If you haven’t tried the spring and firing pin kit I recommend it. Not hard to install and the improvements are remarkable.)

The 97B is a bit blockier, but easily controlled like its smaller-caliber brethren are.

12 yds, 15 shots, DA first shot, SA after. No 1 shows how low the Shadow 2 was with a 6 o’clock hold, the first DA shot was waaay South of the rings. I brought it up and finished the ten shots. No. 2 were the first 15 shots fired with the 75BD. Not bad at all, right where they should be. No. 3 was 10 shots through the 97B. First DA shot went lower than the others but all were pretty good. No 4 was Shadow 2 again, I had to hold the front sight over the orange dot to keep them in the X. No. 5 was 75 BD, this was better than the first :).

I put a new target at 7 yds and did DA first with a fast SA second two-shot strings 5 times (10 shots). Same guns on 1-2-3. The 97B was en fuego until I chunked the fourth DA shot, and the second one from the Shadow 2 missed the rest. The 75BD shot as well as I expected; a little larger grouping but all right there. No. 4 was slow and steady with the Shadow 2, DA first and 9 SA after. This is how this gun is supposed to shoot.

No 5 was 30 shots with the Birdshead Wrangler/CCI Blazer. I had dropped a new trigger return spring into it, blacked out the sights with a Sharpie and wanted to see how it shot. Not great, but better than the first few times I fired it.

These CZ guns are a total hoot, I am really glad I finally read enough THR postings about them and took the plunge. I just wish I had done it sooner.

I never broke out the SP-01, I spent the rest of my time playing “chase the shot” at 5 yards with one of the range guys. (B-27 target put up backwards so its blank. One guy shoots for a mark, second tries to put their shot at least touching the first. If second guy misses, first shooter gets to try to hit the second guys shot, etc. Most hits wins.) I was shooting my Shadow 2 and he had his own SP-01. That kid is a hell of a shot, he beat me 10-7

(Next time we will try with 1911 .45’s. He will probably beat me with those, too! :))

Stay safe.

.

If you think just the spring kit is awesome you need to experience the full package.

Dangit. That is a bummer.

Ya, the elevation screw was turning but the assembly wasn’t moving up. :(

I called CZ custom shop today but just got a recording. I printed up a copy of the new purchase invoice dated 09/27/22 so I can send them an e mail about it. I’ll let folks know what the verdict is from CZ.

Stay safe.

The alloy frame of my PCR has the smooth, durable metallic look -and solid sound- which I prefer in guns.

This is not really important to anybody I know, but for some people it’s “icing on the cake”.
