This happened in the parking lot of a Home Depot in Philadelphia earlier this week. My uncle works there and witnessed it.
Woman requests that police be called. Her new Saab has been stolen from the lot. Police come. Northstar is contacted to track the car and in a few minutes the cop tells the woman to keep her eyes and ears open for the car's flashing lights and honking horn. Car is located in the same parking lot and the woman remembers she'd moved it when a better space became available. Rather than relieved, she still seems very nervous and asks the officer to come with her to check the car and make sure nothing was stolen. She gives him the keys and he looks inside the passenger area. He then pops the trunk and steps back a little when he sees a rifle, a pistol and a kevlar vest. He asks if the guns are loaded and the woman replies, "I don't know. They came with the package. Can you deload them?" Just then a sheaf of papers starts blowing out of the trunk and the woman yells, "Officer, get those! They're classified!"
By way of explanation the woman produces i.d. and tells them that she's a federal prosecutor assigned to the Homeland Security Task Force under Tom Ridge. The cop says the credentials are legit and the car also has government plates. She had just received this package, the car and its contents, a day or two before.
Woman (about 30) leaves the 60ish officer muttering to my uncle that he's glad he only has two weeks to retirement and when he goes back to write this up nobody's gonna believe it.
Feel safe?
