OK, I finally have a small framed snub again. I was without that important gun segment in my collection ever since I sold my Taurus 605.

I bid on, and won, a Taurus 85CH (the bobbed hammer version) on GunBroker. For some areas the price might not be great, but for here it is quite good. It was used and described as being in "Excellent, like new" condition, and I got it for $190 (it should be around $250 after shipping and FFL transfer fees).

It isn't quite my ideal small snub but it was close. I don't like .357mag in a snub so I wanted +P capable .38spl or 9mm (I really want the new 9mm Taurus 905 but it isn't coming out until late summer so it has to wait). I want the bobbed hammer or a concealed hammer. The only thing this doesn't have is that I'd like an aluminum alloy revolver.

Oh well, no one ever said I can only have one. I'll probably get the 905 next, either the stainless version in the CH (bobbed hammer) variety or the aluminum alloy with the hammer (905UL). Unfortunately, as of now, Taurus doesn't plan to bring out the alloy version with the bobbed hammer or in the CIA (concealed hammer, DAO). So that I can also have everything in one gun (light weight and no hammer spur to possibly snag on clothing) I guess I might chance the titanium models (which are more trouble prone) and get the 85CH (bobbed hammer) or 850CIA (DAO, concealed hammer, "hammerless" versions) in titanium, either that or get the 851 (shrouded hammer, which I don't really like) in aluminum alloy. Unfortunately, neither the 905 or the 85 are currently made exactly how I'd want them- with the bobbed hammer or so called "hammerless" and in aluminum alloy.

Anyway, this new snub that I bought should be a very versatile gun. It is a 21oz, +P capable .38, with a bobbed hammer. This should be almost ideal (again, ideal being a little lighter) as a pocket gun or ankle gun and it would be great for occasional use IWB or on the belt. I can't wait to get it.

Well, here is a link to the completed auction if you want to see the gun:
http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=8571319
Note: Yes, my user name there is "newsksshooter" . I chose the name in haste about 2 years ago, a few days after buying my SKS.

I also found myself without a .38 snubbie. My wife has a S&W 60 I bought her a bunch of years ago but I did not have one. I had been checking the local pawn shop and the auction boards but by the time I added the $30.00 FFL fee and $25.00 shipping it approached brand new gun prices.

I took a 35 minute ride to a gun shop where I had bought two Glocks at the lowest price around. I found a like new Taurus 85,Box and papers for $219.00 out the door. I had planned on changing grips on any snub I bought but I really like these grips. They are factory, rubber and very thin.

I brought it home, cleaned it,lubed it with Miltec and the next day I carried it to my hunting land. I put 50 158gr SWC lead reloads thru it and 25 JHP reloads. Trigger was light and very smooth. It was as accurate as any snubbie I have owned.
In the hot Georgia summer it will ride at 1:00 in an Uncle Mike's IWB #36 holster.

I think if yours shoots as good as mine you got a good deal.:D

Oh, almost forgot- While I just won the auction I won't have it for a little while. Even if this little baby is in my FFL's hands in a week I still have to wait about 3 weeks from today. Why? MD has a one gun every 30 day limit and I just picked up my last gun about a week and a half ago. Thus, to be sure that I am not a gun supplier for some gang or something (since we all know that no law abiding citizen has the need for more than one a month) I can't be trusted to pick it up before then :fire: . I can't wait to get out of this state (G-d I hope that I get into an out of state graduate school, I really hope I don't only get into a MD school).

Chaim,

I am glad to know that you are not arming gang members. In my state, that job is reserved for former members of the Illinois State Police.

The union would be very unhappy if you cut into their turf.

Enjoy your new Taurus. I think that their new revolvers are every bit as good as the currently-made Smiths, and they are a lot more reasonably priced.
