He's a German ex-pat who has been here for several years but had never even held a firearm before, he said the closest he'd ever been was seeing a gun in some sort of display case or on a police officers side.

Anyway after a little safety lecture I let him have go with the .357, followed that with 4 magazines from the .22, and let him finish off with the .410. He was grinning from ear to hear when we got done, and he actually seemed to have a natural aptitude for it, he got 7 out of 10 rounds into the 3 inch target at about 5 yards the last magazine he fired.

He was outwardly calm the whole time, but after we'd put the guns away he said "I vas so excited, I am shaking". I found out later that his girlfriend was videotaping from the window to send his family back home.

Anyway I told him the next time he came by I'd let him shoot my SKS, and sent him on his way with visions of NRA safety courses dancing in his head.

Pretty cool huh?

Good on ya', Stand_Watie! :)

I am glad to see that you had him shooting from 5 yards. There's nothing like hitting the target a lot that keeps people interested in shooting. I have an uncle who still insists that shooting a pistol at anything less than 10 yards away is for wussies.

Imagine how your friend would have felt going home with 1 out of 10 rounds in a 12" circle at the end of the day. Frustrated.

You done good! :)

Should have let him clean your vaffe, er, I mean pistol. It would have been the cleanest it had ever been.:D As well, he would have made you some charts and graphs on your ammo consumption.

Monty Python flashback: "I know, let's make a list . . .":p

Good job. You did your part today!

Anytime I take a newbie to the range, they also get to learn the finer points of cleaning a firearm as well. Never let them get off without learning that there is more to shooting than placing the little pellets into the black circle. They also need to know that a properly maintained firearm is paramount to the shooting experience.

;) Easy for you to say. I've gotten my wife to genuinely enjoy shooting the CZ75B I bought her. Now she drags me out to the range. BUT she absolutely refuses to clean the thing - nope - not gonna do it. :neener:

On the brighter side the CZ is so easy to take down and clean that it's not really that big of a deal for me to do it (actually I enjoy cleaning my weapons - don't tell her that though - she might think I'd enjoy cleaning the house or doing laundry or something). :D

Update: My wife got an email from his gal yesterday - she said that they have been going together to the range and are considering getting CCW:D Romantic dates huh? My first date with my wife was also to the gun range, that was almost ten years ago.
