Not to brag too much...but it was pretty awesome.

The gun is going up for sale at the Julia auction house and I was there making videos on a variety of guns they have, and mentioned offhandedly that Keith's carry pistol really deserves to be shot. So an email to the Keith family, and a quick drive to the shop for ammo, and next thing I know we're out behind the auction house with a shoot-n-see target and a cowboy hat.

Here's the video:

What a neat opportunity.

Didn't know you were a member here......that is also cool. I have been enjoying your videos for years and just want to thank you for that.
PM me if you ever end up in Northern California.. I'll buy you a beer.

I really, truly hope that its new owner actually shoots it, rather than relegating it to a case or a safe forever.

Too cool...

Not only shot it but filmed the heck outa it too.

Your own little version of "Hell, I was there!"

Todd.

I have to say, that is pretty cool. I have a 4" 29 no dash which is essentially the same gun, without the provenance of course.

I was watching the gun recoil and realized that mine kicks the same way. No wonder I shoot a few rounds and then take a bit of a break.

I want that gun now! That is so cool. What a legacy. Even if it has been shot by a lefty!:neener:

Cool, I noticed the steer head Ivory/ bone grips, was this his BBQ gun? Did you try the DA pull it would be interesting to know if Elmer lightened the springs or left them stock as he was considered an expert in Fast Double Action shooting. It would be very interesting to put a trigger pull weight gauge on the double action trigger.

This is cool. Think I saw that gun in the Boise Cabelas Elmer Keith display

A friend of mine visited with Elmer at his home. Said he was a really great guy to talk to.

No Keith designed bullets? Sacrilege!

But it did look like you were shooting full powered .44 mag loads.

Did you fire any DA shots?

Did the gun have any end shake or crane shake?

I did see it had alot of blue gone due to drawing from holsters.

What about his carry holster? Get to see it? If so, what kind?

Very cool opportunity to actually shoot a gun that once belonged to Elmer Keith. Thanks for sharing.

Always wondered how truthful the families of famous shootists were about the artifacts they sold.
There seemed to be an endless supply of Jesse James and Bat Masterson guns, for example.
And Ian, pardon the criticism, but some lessons on shooting a Magnum revolver seem to be in order.
There's some middle aged, gray haired guy by the name of Miculek selling videos on the subject.

I enjoyed that immensely. I would have liked to know how smooth the DA pull was. Did you happen to shoot a set in DA by chance?

I did fire a couple rounds DA. I'm not a revolver connoisseur, but the DA trigger felt exceptional to me. And yeah, I realized afterwards that I was using an autoloader grip on it, which was not conducive to proper recoil control.

I saw the vid you posted of it, that's a fine weapon. You are pretty lucky fella to get to shoot it off a few times. Love your channel btw, been watching for a while now, keep them going.
