My grandpa recently passed away and gave me his shotgun. i wondered about the origins of this gun and how much it is worth. its marked "springfield s.stevens arms company chicopee falls mass. u.s.a. selected forged steel, proof tested 16 gauge 2 3/4 inch chamber, stamped with the numbers and letters 5100, MI, AF, and P.

im not gonna sell it and so dont tell me its priceless, i know that.

These old guns that were made before WWII are worth between $250 and $300, according to condition. Some of them had 2 9/16" chambers. If yours has the short chamber, it is almost worthless as ammo is hard to find but available. I have one of these old guns in 12 gauge that has sentimental value but I couldn't get $100 for it if I got in a tight.

5100 is the model #.
Made in the 1940's, it's basically the same as a Savage 311, mechanically.
Good solid gun. I have a 16 and a 20. Killed my fisrt anything with a .410 gauge 5100 at about 7 years old.

I have wanted a Springfield version of the 16ga double barrel for a long time to match my Grandfather's Springfield 20 ga pump.

When they show up around here, they are in the neighborhood of $250-350. About the same as the Savage 311 version. And, as you already know - "Grandpa's Gun" is priceless.
