Soooo i went to cabelas today.. bored... just got a 44 mag Henry big boy 2 days prior from there...

Walked into the used gun section thinking nothing new was there... And there it was, this giant honking 34 inch barrel 1874 Sharps, Quigley down under edition...

I litterally watched that movie last night too, and here it was the rifle ive wanted and never thought id ever see. Just sitting there for me to blow all my money on. They wanted 1800$.. i asked if theyd do 1700$ and they accepted. It also has a 6x malcom scope on it. 450$ scope with the mount.

It absolutetly 0 dmg.. trigger has no marks.. no gun powder signs anywhere.. I honestly think it was never shot..

I bought that sucker.. People in the store were like what thr heck is that massive that rifle hah.. It weighs 15lbs. The quigley rifle is 34 inchs ling. Has that plate on the stock back. It opens up i guess its for patchs ? But i think only the quigley version had this.

Amazing rifle !!!. How weird is it to watch the movie then the next day randomly find one snd buy it lol.

But ya.. i have a sickness.. between this, and the 44 henry.. and the carrying bags and ammo for the henry etc.. ive spent near 3200$ in 2 days.

Help me haha 20210812_234629.jpg 20210812_234608.jpg 20210812_234602.jpg 20210812_234613.jpg

I love that movie. I've been fooling around with an iab sharps a relative left me to work on. Now that's a piece of junk. Steel is soft, set trigger doesn't work, firing pin is all wobbly in the block.......
But for all of that, the sharps is a cool looking rifle, and I'm a sucker for a falling block. Always wanted a low wall.

Like an idiot, I bought that rifle too after watching the movies so many times with the long range vernier sights. Deadly accurate, now I want one with a 28" or 30" barrel for deer hunting 34" is a little forward heavy for off hand shooting. Beautiful rifle and a great deal you have there. Congratulations.

I suffer with this too.... but its quit tamed because im poor, or guns over here are expensive :D

Oh im poor now trust me. I had the cash for my 1200$ on 300 rnds of 44 mag. The case and th3 44 henry rifle. I just used my cabelas card because you get 2% back. So i got 20$ back. Then i just put my cash on the card and pay it off right away. But dude.. i had to go 1800$ in the deep hole for this gun.. LOL

Yea after i bought it, doing research i heard there are some bad repros out there.. Mine is Cimirron. But not nade by Shiloh. Its made by Armi sport some italian company. But it really feels looks. Runs smooth from the qction and hammer and so forth.

Well see when i shoot it though. Mine is a 45-70.

One thing i noticed on mine is the wood is a lighter color, and the color case isnt really Deep all over cano blue. Honestly i prefer this lighter grey color case slight blue on it. Ive seen alot of these color cased blued 1874 sharps online and im not liking the patterns on them.

Or maybe my color case is wearing off ? Not sure how.. the gun has 0 wear.. so i think it came lighter colored like this

No cure bro -- welcome to the therapy group!

FWIW, my recent classic single shot purchases were Swedish rolling block rifles from Simpsons. I bought three (2 Carl Gustavs and 1 Remington) in fine shooting condition for less than one good repro Sharps.

They are even qualify as borderline Tom Selleck-ish, since a scoped rolling block appears in several scenes from Crossfire Trail. Selleck shoots a buffalo with it, and Wilford Brimley later uses it to KO the bad guy's scoped Remington-Keene bolt action.

BTW, if you like movies featuring the Sharps, checkout the mid-1950s Robert Taylor flick The Last Hunt. The plot has some holes, but the gun stuff is worth watching.

This is also one of the few films to feature a reloading scene -- another is the 1960 John Huston film The Unforgiven (not to be confused with the later Clint Eastwood film Unforgiven; completely different stories.)

Sorry to digress -- I'm a sucker for a good Western.
