I have achieved 1911

Pop Guns. Of course, I can't promise it will still be there. I bought the Taurus on Friday and they were open both Saturday and Sunday....

Okay, I'm willing to accept that taking a handgun to the range without a carry license is unlikely to be an issue (although the fact that one level of license in Indiana is Hunting/target shooting bothers me. Why issue a license for target shooting if you can do it without one?) it still wouldn't help my normal case. I usually go to the range on my lunch break which means instead of home-range-home, I've got home-work-range-work-home, which I strongly suspect is _not_ covered.

1911 pistol Taurus

Glad to hear you got yourself a new pistlol. Enjoy But Id go back and see if that Norinco 1911 45ACP is still there and if they will lay it away for you and you can pay it off a little at a time, As you will be able to shoot your norinco when your Taurus is on vacation at the sevice center in miami Fla being repaired... Good luck...

And I have now had a chance to take the 1911 to the range.

Ran 100 rounds through it. Well, I ran 92 and a friend of mine ran 8.

First, as with other 1911's I've shot (mostly range rentals) it just fits my hand nicely, either shooting one handed or two handed. Well, I did break down and replace the flat mainspring housing with an arched one before I even shot it. Again, I found in previous ones that the arched housing fits my hand a bit better.

I can't speak to accuracy. Truth is, I'm not good enough to judge the gun. I can, however, say that sight picture was really easy to acquire and the sights that came with the gun made getting good sight alignment easy and fast. The 100 rounds went through smoothly, with nary a burble. Just bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam with slide locking back on the eighth shot, reload, release the slide, repeat.

There are three things I'd really like at the moment. The first is to maybe reduce trigger pull (it's currently right on 8 lbs). I'd like adjustable sights--although I'm not willing to trade that easy sight picture to get them. I'd also like an extended slide stop, but since this is intended as a carry gun (once that license arrives) snagging could be an issue with that.

On the whole and in my rather inexperienced opinion, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Oh, I was also able to recover 96 of the 100 spent cases. Given the price of ammo, I'm seeing reloading in my near future.

Dburkhead,

I live in a suburb of Indianapolis. When I applied for my CCW license the interviewing police chief told me I could take the weapon to the range without the license, but the weapon had to be cased, unloaded and partially disassembled (i.e. slide off for semiautomatics). In any case talk to your local police station before you take any action.

I own a couple of Taurus wheel guns, and have made grips for a couple of PT1911, which the owners were nice enough to let me test drive. I was impressed with the firearm for the money, and will eventually get one. Have fun, be safe!

From what I've seen here and elsewhere, I'm pretty much convinced that going to and from the range, carrying the firearm secured, is okay, even though that's not the way the actual wording of the law reads to me.

The main problem is that most of my range trips are during lunch at work. Home->range->home may be okay, but home->work->range->work->home is not.

With my 10/22, however, that's not a problem.
