I have begun to notice a disturbing trend

Goon, AFAIK, I have never seen a law that you are responsible for the next person, it is if you have any reasonable expectation that the person is a prohibited person.

So you would never sell a vehicle to anyone other than a dealer?

Oh, and the fact that they HAVE a CCW permit isn't a bit of a clue that they will pass a (limited) background check?

oh I would sell a car to a private party...but then again I never heard of someone wanting to buy a car to run over and kill their estranged spouse or buy a car to run into a group of thugs on the corner because they gave him a dirty look....

who cares if Joe/Jane Blow has a CCW permit...for all you know, maybe his right to CCW was just revoked 2 days ago because of some court issued restraining order he has against him and he hasn't turned in his permit yet...

I don't want the burden falling on me to determine whether Joe/Jane Blow seems like an "ok" kind of person to possess a firearm, for a private party transaction. There are a lot of people who act "normal" but have a checkered past.

Registration of a firearm is not defined by how easy it is to trace back to you but the fact that it can be traced back to you. State laws may vary but federal law does not vary by state.

Just as a fee is not a tax and a tax is not a fee. ;)

recently, i have realized that a disturbing amount of people are already under the misconception that guns are/must be/have been "registered." Too many buyers ask how to "register" the gun in their name, and nearly all of the sellers want to know how to get the gun "out" of their name.

This means that there are a lot of new gun owners out there... Good news for us.

That's kind of where my head is. I don't know the statistics, but with each passing day, there are more guns being sold...a lot of them. Guns are lost to attrition at a minuscule rate compared to new guns adding to the total, which must be pretty staggering by now. Add to that the fact that most gun owners are pretty determined to keep their guns. How is anyone going to put that Genie back in a bottle?
