For some reason, i have a knife problem that never quits. I have two knives that I recieved as gifts many years ago and both there pocket clips have either been damaged, or fallen off. One knife is a kershaw assisted opening pocket knife ( 1560st ) that my father gave me. It's branded by snap-on. the second is a boker magnum but im not sure of the model number. I have called both company's and they are both requesting proof of purchase. It sucks to have two good knives just sitting around. I really dont want to get a sheath. I'm considering trading both knives for one single one. I really want a kershaw leek or blur. what should i do?

If it's the clip on the knife, be glad it's off. The first thing I do with any knife that has a pocket clip is remove the clip. They are the most stupid, idiotic, useless, moronic attachment I can imagine on a good knife. Something was seriously wrong the day manufacturers started adding those ridiculous things to knives. Pure garbage.

On the other hand...I discovered pocket clips on Spyderco in 1988 and have used them as a way to carry and quickly access my knives ever since. I have more than a few and really like pocket clips.

Right. Who could ever imagine why a company would want to provide their customers with a superior option for carrying their knives which offers easy access and secure retention, in a package that can be removed easily if the user wishes. Whatever were they thinking?

Only saw that problem once. a friend kept having the clip on his benchmade keep coming loose. a generous dollop of locktite solved the problem.

In all fairness it was not the knive, this guy is a habitual abuser of good knives.

I tease him that I could have bought a new recliner if I charged him for all the sharpening and repairs I do for him over the years.

If you contact Kershaw, they probably send you a replacement for the clip and new screws, if not outright replace it and give you a new one with sandvik 13c26 steel blade. They are really good with that sort of thing, especially if the knife is still in stock. The Blur and Leek are also really nice knives. The Leek is closer to your Whirlpool that you have right now. I just bought new ones of both, the Blur with s30v steel and G10 handle and the Rainbow Leek to add to my collection.

I like the clips. It fastens them nicely to my trouser pocket and leaves them obtainable, especially when I have way too much stuff in my pockets and I don't like to carry sheaths around particularly on a folding pocket knife.

I've never really had a problem with any of my knives that have pocket clips. Sure they come loose here and there, but I've never had one fall off. A quick tighten and I'm good to go. The only "issue" I've had with a pocket clip, was on my Cold Steel Voyager. The clip was part of the molded handle. i was walking out of my bedroom about a week after I bought it and the clip got caught on the door striker plate. Snap, it broke right off. Pissed me off something good.

What was it you asked them to do that they requested proof of purchase?

If you were asking for a clip and screws to replace the one loose/lost they usually just drop them in the mail to you for free.

Well as for the Boker Magnum, forget about it.

As for the Kershaw, I would snap the tip off the blade and send it back to them and ask
them if they would "please" remedy the knife. They will send you a new knife, FREE.

Fortunately there are plenty of options for us all to choose from! I have carried some type of knife with a clip on it for years. Only recently have I taken to carrying a Case medium stockman. I love the knife, but I do notice a significantly slower rate of deployment being the thing is buried in my pocket with everything else! Besides, I have noticed life is much more enjoyable if I don't get so tied up in what I believe everybody else should use/have/like/think.

To the OP, there are many custom knife makers that would be happy to perform the repairs needed, likely even here on THR. I am not sure what it would cost you, but it would be worth it if the knives do hold sentimental value.

Considering that a simple request for replacement screws and clip should be all that's needed that piece of advice seems unnecessary and ethically questionable.

It's also ethically questionable to try and weasel out of taking care of a product that
needs fixing that can be done fairly easily.

I have NEVER had to show Proof of Purchase for ANY knife I had warranty work or parts
replacement done on.......even Microtech!! (Mr. Marfione is Hard Core)

To the OP:

Maybe you should send the knife to me, I can remedy the issue.

Kershaw and I correspond periodically. (They don't ask me for Proof either)

What The.......................the clip is one of the best things to ever happen to knives---easy access and keeps it from flopping around in your pocket--------if you want clip-less just get a Case or SAK.

Kershaw's customer service goes WAY BEYOND what should be expected out of a knife company. just send it in to them, they'll make it right.

Kershaw has a web site for parts replacement. Friend bought a used speedsafe knife don't remember model, the internal spring broke, (must have been really used) a few clicks on the site, and it came in the mail less than a week later.

From their own Warranty page -
Can I have a part sent to me?

Yes. However, we cannot ship a blade to you. If your knife needs a blade or you need more than one part, please send it in for FREE warranty service. If you want us to ship you parts other than the blade, just use the Contact Us form on the bottom of this page to request parts. Remember that parts are specific to each knife model, so please make sure the model number is included in your request for parts. You can locate the four-digit model number on the blade or handle.

Thank you all for the help and advise. I spoke with a customer rep yesterday at Kershaw and she was very helpfull. I just mailed off the knife and there going to service it for me. Its not just the clip of the knife thats wrong. Under neath the clip goes to gromits ( i think ) that support the two outer screws of the clip. Those gromits are not there. So i sent it in. At the same time, there going to sharpen the blade.

after such a rant one would think that he would explain. Personally I am fond of having my knife securely attached, where I left it instead of sitting at the bottom of my pocket, sideways, with change and lint getting into it.

Guess by Shockwave's estimation that makes me a "stupid, idiotic" and "moronic"

This on THR?!

That is certainly very unethical and I'm disgusted to read this here!

Well JCUMM2, This was suggested after the OP mentioned that the company was trying
to "dodge" fixing his knife issue.

Save your ill placed disgust for the current President.

( I am glad to see that you have been here 5 years and I made you come out of the woodwork)

Beelzy,

There is an old formula, something about the sum of two wrongs. I forget

And any disgust for the "president" would not be "ill placed" but rather "properly placed"

Besides, Kershaw is fixing his knife and sharpening it, standing behind their product

I personally stopped using my clips. I have lost two knives that were clipped to my pocket. New they are fine but once you have broken the clips in they start to get loose. The first one I lost jumping on a compactor to get the material down only after I took my locks off and cycled it a couple of times did I realize it was missing. The Second one I am not sure where I lost it, but it is in the mountains somewhere. I'm pretty sure I lost it jumping down off a log or something. Now I tie a piece of gutted 550 cord to my lanyard hole and have that sticking out of my pocket. Kind of like people do with those keychain lanyards. I haven't had one fly out of my pocket yet and it is easy to access, though it does get lint.

BEELZY:

I don't care what excuse you want to use, you disgust me.
I wish and hope I never have to do business with someone so unethical.
People like you make everyone else PAY.
I have plenty of disgust for the current government but that has NOTHING to do with this.
Unethical is unethical.
You can NOT justify it just to get your way.
You make me want to PUKE!
Why don't you go look for a site called the LOW ROAD because that is where you belong.
