Then, they take a thin, somewhat sharp bent piece of metal and affix it to one side of the handle, making it un-ergonomic and uncomfortable to hold, and unsightly to boot. I know it takes all kinds, horses for courses, etc., but if buy a knife and it has one on it, the first thing I do is take the clip off and throw it away. You have trouble keeping a knife in a pocket, get a holster or something.
Ultimately, I could care less what you do with your knife, but I can't resist the urge to play devils advocate here: You don't like a clip, but affixing an ugly and ungainly holster to your belt is somehow better?
Derailing this thread some more, I guess my opinion is just, you know, whatever. I have Case knives sans clips that I enjoy carrying in my pocket. The mini trapper has become my daily work knife on account of the fact that I simply don't need my bigger knives and the Case is a little more office friendly. Typically, I hate stuff in my pockets, but the Case just sort of settles in there comfortably, something that my keys, cellphone and can of chew do not do. No other knife that I own does that either, to include a regular size Trapper. In fact, the first thing I do when I get to work is throw my keys, chew, phone and sunglasses into a little box I keep in my drawer, and that is where they stay all day.
On the other hand, when not at work, I carry a number of different knives, most frequently my Spyderco Endura. I love that knife, but it is too big to ride loose in my pocket comfortably. However, it carries very comfortably with the pocket clip and is easier to get to. This same thing is true of literally every pocket knife I own with a clip. Holding that Endura right now, I notice no ergonomic discomfort, nor any awkward hot spots caused by the clip or anything else. Plenty of moderately hard use has yet to ever make me think less of it from a comfort standpoint. Thus, while I guess I agree with you from a different strokes for different folks standpoint, I refute your logic as it regards me personally.
But, like I said, whatever floats your boat.
