I have no clue what single or double action is.

There's a sticky thread on this under "Handguns: Autoloaders." I guess it's there because nobody gets confused about this when the subject is revolvers, and hardly anybody cares when it's semi-auto rifles because they're almost all SA anyway, for some reason.

What drives me up the wall is that the terminology for airbrushes also uses the terms "single action" and "double action," but there, a "double action" airbrush is one where you have to do two distinct things when you use it--like a single-action pistol; with a single-action airbrush you just push the button and it sprays.

another one to throw into the mix, my newest gun, the ruger SR9, is a DAO striker fired 9mm with a manual safety...

the neat thing about this one is that there is a small plastic indicator on the back of the slide that moves as you depress the trigger, so you can visually see how far into the range of travel the firing pin is...

i was worried about it before i got it because i have fired traditional hammer fired DA guns that have a very tough initial trigger pull that smooths out after the first shot when the gun goes into SA mode... in this case, the trigger is 100% consistent every time...
