Holes in the the side of a tube on the end of the barrel will do nothing to stop excess burning powder from burning.

Think about it......

It is merely to channel it away from the shooter's line of sight.

OK, last time I'll post on this too... I just want to clarify. The boat tail DOES make a significant difference from the point of view of aerodynamics in both the supersonic and subsonic ranges. It does not, apparently, make too much difference to ballistics in the supersonic range.

My best guess is that this is due to the increased time of flight for a subsonic bullet to the same distance mark as a supersonic bullet. More time under an effect equals, well, more effect. That oughta do it.

That, and if you're one of those super long distance shooter's who's trying to eek out the highest possible BC, a boat tail does do that, if not by much.

Visiting in Illinois...

...so I called the local Dicks to see if they were still selling 9mm ammo on sale (Winchester, $6.98 case price per box). Mentioned that I was an out-of-stater and hence had no FOID. He replied, "You hafta have a foyd."

I "reminded" him that non-residents can't get an FOID. "Then ya can't buy nothin' you gotta have a foyd. It's Illinois state law."

Knowing it was useless, but giving it one last shot, I clarified that no law requires me to have an FOID to buy ammunition. "OK, then it's against company policy. You can't buy anything here. (laugh)"

"OK, well do you mind if I double-check that with your manager?"

"I AM the manager." :banghead:

My all time favorite.

A few years back I found a barcoded Sig P239 that I have confirmed with Sigarms to have come from their Testing and Evaluation program.

When I was looking at it in a local gun/military surplus store the clerk said that 'all new Sigs come from the factory with a bar code now' and that I could 'get some cleaner (I forgot what he suggested as a cleaner) and just scratch it off.' :what: :D

Here's a myth that I used to here a lot "A Gun Rack and a Harley Emblem in your truck window will keep people from breaking into your Truck".
While Back in the day a Harley Emblem most often meant Biker Club today it means you are an Orthodontist or other PhD level education that has the expendable income to afford a Harley. Not a H.A. or other Club
No offense meant to Biker and or others that ride them but most working class folk can't get there easily.

NPPD doesn't use Glocks

This person stated that he did not recommend Glocks for police use because they were designed for military use which meant that they would be carried with an empty chamber and therefore with the trigger in the rearward position. If one were to carry a Glock with a round in the chamber and the trigger forward, it would be prone to get ice build-up behind the trigger.

Universal -

If I remember correctly that is why the North Pole Police Department stopped using Glocks.:D

I heard a salesman telling a customer in a local "cop shop"... "It's easy to do a trigger job on a Smith and Wesson revolver. You just take the screws out, and pry this plate off, then take a stone and clean up the hammer spur.........."

Actually there is isn't quite correct but very close to the truth .

Guns & Ammo had an article in the 80's on a home trigger job for these revolvers that worked very well .

You removed the sideplate and the internals and LIGHTLY stoned the hammer and sear with a fine oil stone .

I ran my 586 parts over a stone about a dozen times and put it back together , it made a huge difference in the feel of the trigger especialy when using it double action . Everyone I let try it loved it and thought I had paid a smith for a trigger job .

I almost got sick when I read about "prying" the sideplate off, and I've heard that one, too --and seen the results on otherwise fine guns.

:barf:

No, you tap the frame with a soft Newtonian Hammer and the side plate stays in the same place in the Universe and the gun moves away from it.

Sorry, most of the BS I hear from store clerks goes in one ear and out the other, so I don't remember any of it.

"You can't use Remington shells in a Winchester gun!"

Well, in my opinion that may be immoral but that doesn't mean you can't.

actualy. remington cheap shells have poor ejection in my 20 gauge M12. they are just a smidgon too long, cant, and fail to eject. the Winchesters iv used worked great. but then again it is Cheap remingtons and a 90 sumthing year old shotgun

iv had a number of run ins with Mosins/ Mausers/SKS's all labeled wrong.

one of the better ones was a SBS.
i was just asking questions and asked if it was SBS or AOW ( i already knew it was AOW from a previous convo with the owner)
the clerk then told me its a "sawn off"
i asked again, SBS or AOW
he says " well it was sawn off in another state so it wasnt subject to MA laws"
hes saying this as hes taking it out of the case incase i want to look at it.
i declined to put my prints on it ;)

oh and a good laugh on the phone as me and a shop owner went back and forth
i asked him about a VZ52 rifle
Me: "so its not a hicap and can be bought on FID"
Him: "its not a high cap but it needs LTC class B"
" no not the CZ52. the VZ52"
"the cz52?"
"no, VZ"
"ya CZ"
"no VZ, Victor Zulu"
"oh. wow. im way off"

the whole time i was talking rifle. he was talking pistol and we thought the other knew

And the one thereis OSME truth in, abut the Beretta 92s

This is a Beretta 92, now the only thing about this gun is ou don;t want to be in arms reach of your assailient, he can just reach up and grab the slide and jerk it right off!

It's a little more complicated than that. You have to press the slide release, and move the release level down. Neither of which you can do while the trigger is being pulled :)

I went to a gunshop to pick up a few boxes of .25ACP once. I asked the guy for .25ACP. His reply was, "All we have is regular .25 Auto.":banghead:

Recently I had a friend that had been a gun collector for a long time (many years) make a statement so far out there that it deserves a Carlos Mencia "dee dee dee" award.

We went into a local gun shop for him to buy a specific shotgun that he saw their earlier and said was a really good deal. When he looked at the shotgun again he looked at me and said he couldn't buy it because it was in chambered for 3” shells but he wanted a shotgun to shoot 2-3/4" shells out of. He even told this to the salesman behind the counter. He swears up and down he was just kidding with us but the honesty on his face when he said it and the immediate redness in his cheeks when he heard these words repeated aloud say otherwise.

All I can say is:
