I only load coated cast lead SWCs, so I am not certain, but I think going from plated to coated you won't have to change the powder charge as long as the bullet weight, shape, and col remain the same also.
I am sure someone more learned than me will come along to educate us, though.

Never heard of them. I use Berry's 124 for 9mm. What do I need to know other than that. Is there anything that is different about them that would change how I load. For example, I load 5.2 gn.Power Pistol and oal is 1.125". Educate me if you don't mind.
Nearly any change in bullet can affect the peak chamber pressure generated by a given load, but your PP charge is way below the starting charge for any 124gr. bullet. If you were closer to the max charge I would not recommend substituting bullets with your current charge. In general one should start low and work up for any change of components, but 5.2gr. of Power Pistol is low enough to be a suitable starting charge for any 124gr. bullet.

Changing bullets will start your load development over, however. If your 5.2gr charge delivers good accuracy with the Berrys bullet it may not with another - testing is the only way to determine that. You may also have to adjust your OAL to allow the new bullet's nose profile to feed and/or chamber correctly in your gun(s).

There's not much different procedurally in loading coated lead bullets as compared to plated, but the coating is more easily penetrated, making the required degree of belling of the case mouth and crimping a bit different (and more critical).

I reread my question and realized I said PP. I am using cfe pistol. Sorry. My bad. Now where were we.
I've not tried the MBC, but I have tried a couple of coated 124gr RN with CFE Pistol. 5.2gr. of it is bit warmer load. I stopped at 5.0gr. and 1120fps with the Acme Hi-Tek coated 124RN, but that version of the Acme bullet (since revised) required deeper seating than MBC's 124RN recommendation.

MBC recommends an OAL of 1.08" with their 124RN so it may make a bit more pressure at a given charge than the Berrys 124RN. 5.2gr. of CFE-P will probably be a max load with the coated 124RN [email protected]" producing 1125-1150fps - I recommend dropping back to 4.7gr or so and working it up.

Very interesting and makes sense. Thanks a lot. This site is the best if you have a problem with reloading or a question on a gun problem. I have had 3-4 different things answered or a least a direction to go.

In general I have found that lead bullets in 9mm usually need about .1 to .2 gr less powder for the same vel as plated.
Hodgdons data for a lead 124 cone
start 4.4 max 5gr
125 GR. LCN Hodgdon CFE Pistol .356" 1.125" 4.4 1041 27,200 PSI 5 1156 33,000 PSI

I shoot a lot of the MBC cones and they shot well for me. (both coated and uncoated)
