Well I just wanted to state, that I love my Taurus 85.
Has Hogue grips, its all blue steel.
And it shoots better with its 2 inch barrel than our Ruger MK3 with the 7 inch barrel.
I kid you not, so far no reliability issues.
Thought I'd share this info for anyone looking at a Taurus

Yeah

Over a 1000 rounds of mainly + P stuff through my M85 (which I bought used to begin with) and no problems and its as accurate as I need.

In fact, I've started carrying it again vs my 642, as I have a higher degree in confidence in its accuracy to 7yds. That might change as I proctice more with the 642, but for now the M85 is the snubby I carry.

The SP 101 is a bit too heavy for the pocket, I'm dissatisfied with the 642's accuracy, so the M85 is my go-to snubby.

In fact, i was thinking of picking up one of the M856 - the brother to the M85 in same size but with 6 shots.

I have mine for 20 years and had no problems. The trigger and sights are better than a S&W J frame of that era.

Taurus 85

Bought a Taurus 605 Blued w 2" barrel : same gun as 85 but 357 mag. Gun shoots like target pistol ; one ragged hole at 21' with Wally 125 JHP 38. Spec.+P. Rem UMC.

I bought my Stainless version in 1992. I have put many rounds through it, all +P reloads. I used it for BUG in my IDPA days, and it still operates fine. I carry it in a IWB Kydex belt holster. Money well spent on the one I have.

My 85 ULBH is my "out of state " travel gun.

plateshooter, I'm glad you posted that. I have one of about the same vintage, and I always kind of wondered about +P. Your post pretty much removes the doubt for me. So thanks.

I have that same Hogue grip. It looks just like that - except blued. Nice looking gun you have there!

They're still in business so someone is buying them. I'm not a snob but owned two Taurus revolvers and both had the same problem of the cylinder locking up. Both were CCW (905 & 44C) and now I carry S&W.
I did see a very good looking 24/7 yesterday at my FFL's, beautiful gun, very comfy to hold, 17 round mag I think, as he said, 1 in 5 is unreliable (in semiauto). Funny thing, he also has a Taurus .41 that sleeps in the safe because it too has mechanical failures.
Maybe the m85 were better made?
For most revolver afenciados, Taurus isn't a primary carry CCW but I know that I just ruffled some feathers. No disrespect intended but I wouldn't trust my life to anything mechanical which is why I carry minimum two revolvers, but I halfed my Murphy Interference by not carrying a Taurus.

No ruffled feathers here. My 85 is the "good" one. I have had a "bad" one from that company also, so I am 1 and 1 overall.

If you get a good one, it's a great one.

If you have never taken off the side plate, you may want to do that (professionally). I had my FFL friend clean out the insides of the 642, didn't touch the return spring, and now it shoots much smoother. Couldn't believe the junk that accumulates inside there.

Have the Taurus 85CH that is 20+ years old. Still going strong.

There is many a Taurus 85 fan out there. For good reasons ,too.

Mas Ayoob and Marshall and Sanow document that Taurus 85s have been used by civilians and off duty LEOs to save their bacon on any number of occasions.

Want to talk with other Taurus 85 fans?
www.taurusarmed.net has a bunch of them.

So does Taurus Talk and MSN.

I guess you can't handle a 7" do to the front heavy barrel, which "to me" is a contradiction on real world accuracy.

No I'm partially blind and at the range I can only hit to 10 yards.
The 22 seems to have more flyers, the 38 seems to land tighter groups.
Obviosuly slow single action shooting.

.22s are notorious for being finicky about ammo. Try different brands, you might find the right one that will " suit " it better. To keep in track with the thread, I love my wifes blued 605 so much, I ordered a SS one for myself!:)
