Sean Penn's rescue bid sinks
From correspondents in New Orleans
05sep05

EFFORTS by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak.

Penn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina's flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch.
The actor, known for his political activism, was seen wearing what appeared to be a white flak jacket and frantically bailing water out of the sinking vessel with a red plastic cup.

When the boat's motor failed to start, those aboard were forced to use paddles to propel themselves down the flooded New Orleans street.

Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: "Whatever I can do to help."

With the boat loaded with members of Penn's entourage, including a personal photographer, one bystander taunted the actor: "How are you going to get any people in that thing?"

Hmmm....

Just another out of touch Hollywood lib trying to stoke his ego by doing something "real" instead of pretending for a living. Funny he needed a photographer with him to record the boat sinking. LOL!

That is comedy of the first order. Wow. Didn't plug the drain hole. Wearing a flak jacket, presumably as protection against snipers. No room in the boat to take on those rescued. A personal photographer, to memorialize for publicity purposes his heroic deeds. Motor goes T.U. Surprised really that he even had oars on board. Thank goodness there are others besides compassionate celebs helping those poor people down there, or they'd be SOL.

I think that photo needs some quote baloons. How about for the guy behind Penn: "Geez I can't wait til the strike at the plant is over so I can quit my temp job with this moron."

Funniest thing I've seen yet today...Who says you can't find a bright spot in this disaster??? The flak jacket just completes the picture.

OK, Sean failed in his first attempt. The boat was too small, there were too many onboard, he forgot to plug the hole. So he went back to the drawing board and came up with a better solution.

He's bottomed out somewhere in the Bourbon Street area.

Last year I went to New Orleans. Before President Bush made Hurricane Katrina show up, it was a happy place. They had flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles.
-Sean Penn

I had to actually re-read that quote, Justin, and think about it awhile before I decided you made it up. I thought 'yeah, Sean Penn could have said that....'

That dude in the picture with Penn is the same lefty dude that wrote a recent article for Rolling Stone that called the ground down in Texas where Cindy Sheehan was "the color of dried dog ????" and said the cows were moaning. Funny I thought cows mooed. His father is some lefty reporter independent that has been reporting left wing propaganda for Pacifica Network TV. These guys seem to swim together or drown together.

Yikes! Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Danny Glover, Michael Moore, Martin Sheen all together in one place? What a missed opportunity that was. Goebbels would be proud.

You guys have got to read Bigfoot's link to the NY Daily News and compare it with the original story being posted here. It is like they are reporting two entirely different events.

You're right Bart - glad you said that - no mention whatsoever of his foibles from the NYDN. Only lauding of his incredible heroism.

Now you've got me very confused . I was going to vote for "Geraldo" for performance of the year. Now I can't decide between "Geraldo" and Sean Penn. Now if he had Madonna in the boat too .....

I vote we leave Geraldo, Penn and their respective entourages stranded in NO after everybody else leaves. Then we can all take dibs on who resorts to cannibalism first.

Sure is.

Most accounts I have heard regarding his "benevolent acts" basically summed up that between him and his entourage, there was not enough room for any victims, regardless of the boat filling with water. Maybe I would have some respect for him if he had jumped out and swam so that someone else could be saved.

What a *****.
