I made a mistake at the range today, and it made me feel dumb.

I shoot at an indoor range quite often. You could not count the number of holes in the roof. My shotgun patterns are smaller than some people's groups with a pistol. You understand that it is a problem and will, I am sure, make efforts to correct it. That makes you a smarter and better shooter than a lot of the people I have seen.

We all make mistakes. I was walking into said range/gun store and dropped a revolver on the floor. Wasn't loaded, few witnessed it, it had been handed to me by a friend while I was already burdened, etc. I had convenient excuses. But I was embarrased with myself. As I should have been.

A few months back, "Guns and Ammo" ran a tribute to Jeff Cooper that included a page of memories from various industry writers, etc. A former editor of "Guns and Ammo" told of a visit to the Col's home and how as Jeff was showing him a new S&W 29 in the den, the Col. raised the revolver, took aim at a gas meter outside in the yard and instead of the expected "click" of the fine trigger he was bragging about, put a hole in both the den window as well as the precise point of his aim on the meter!!!
We've all done stupid things.....the lucky survive, learn and go on....

I understand that it is in jest but recommending the discharge of a firearm at someone for their political affiliations is not High Road.

I like jokes. I am listening to a George Carlin album right now. But this is a public forum to further our RKBA. Never forget that antis and more importantly people without a real opinion are watching. Joking about shooting people is not funny to some people, for obvious reasons.

Fake vomit, on the other hand...

It is understood that the "point the gun at a Democrat" remark was a joke. We try to refrain from such humor here.

Statements that promote dangerous or illegal actions, even in jest are frowned on here. They are easily misconstrued in cyberspace and take on meaning the author did not originally intend. Humor is certainly a good thing. Humor that can be twisted and used against gunowners and the RTKBA is not in keeping with the High Road's mission statement.

I am leaving the comment in question up, so new members can learn by example. If it was removed, subsequent remarks would appear senseless. Future remarks that display a wanton disregard for life, bloodlust, or dangerous gun handling, even in jest, will result in warning of members, locking of threads, and escalation of moderation. Consider this one a freebie.

FWIW, we need more Democrats and liberals on board with the second amendment. Take one shooting today, teach them safely, have fun, and convert an antagonist. We will keep our rights by making friends. We will lose them by alienating those who would have been converted.

^Well said!
It's also generalizing to bash all Democrats. I personally am friends with a large family of liberals who stand up for gun ownership. Rare, I know.
