I must be an idiot, please help on 1300

I cant figure out what is going on here. I just bought another Winchester 1300 Defender 18in (1979), with the full magazine tube which everyone says is 7rds plus one in the chamber. I can only fit 6rds in the tube plus one in the chamber??? What gives? What am I missing? Im sorry to bother you guys with this, I just dont know what is wrong. Thank you for your help. Kevin.

Are you using 2 3/4 inch shells or 3 inch??
If you are using the 2 3/4 inch I would check to see if the previous owner has put a makeshift plug in it.

Thank you sir, yes Im using 2.75, and I checked, there is no plug. Are there different magazine followers? The 7th round goes in about 70%. No binding either. ??

I do not know specifically about the Winchester Defender 1300, but I know most 18inch barrel shotguns with a full tube mag can only take six plus one.

Well, that is right sir. My 870 only holds 6 in the tube now that you mention it. I.just see everyone calling their 1300 defender an 8 shot.
