I need 41 Magnum Magsafe ammo.

I can't find any anywhere. The only on-line source I found is out.

Helpppppppppppppp. I really want some for home defense in my M58.

Thanks,
LoneWulf

Have you considered using the Silvertip? I was fairly impressed with its performance on a deceased deer.

"I need 41 Magnum Magsafe ammo."

No you don't.

Listen to John.

The only people who get a tangible benefit from using Magsafe are the people who manufacture it and sell it.

I'd never willingly or by choice use it in a defensive situation.

I'm fully of the opinion that it's a chimera.

I've got silvertips in it now, I just want something that won't penetrate as much. 175@1250 is a bit much for a self-defense load in my view.

I like what I have seen from the high velocity frangibles, such as 10mm, 44mag and such.

Magsafe did make a 41 Magnum load at one time, but they discontinued it.

I will just have to keep looking. :D

Check around your laocal gun shows and see if you can find any of the old Speer/CCI 200gr JHP-SWC.

I also like the old Remington 210 lead SWC when I can find them. It was originaly designed as a police duty load.

LW,

I have now fired several more .41 Silvertips into (temporarily) live deer and even an armadillo.

Penetration was not excessive. In fact, a shot fired into a doe weighing just over 100 lbs, entering just behind the shoulder blade from about her 4:00, did not penetrate the skin on the far side. It DID level her decisively- she had been hit in the spine with a hunting rifle, and had been trying to run on her forelegs. This is with a 3" bl 657 from about 15 feet. With most hollowpoint ammo, shorter barrels mean less expansion, and thus, more penetration. If you are using a longer barrel, you could expect less penetration.

On the whole, Silvertips in general have a good reputation, with the caveat that sometime folks complain of too little penetration. It is interesting that you mention the Silvertip's stats as being excessive for SD use- Magsafe typically loads very light loads at almost rifle velocities. I respectfully submit you might want to test a Silvertip into a row of water-filled gallon milk jugs before you make that decision.

Best,

John

Thanks to all of you for the information. It is greatly appreciated.
Particularly on the Silvertip performance. Thanks John. :D

Interesting perception on part of one writer that pre-fragmented core ammunition a "Chimera".

Inasmuch as I provided the intial design for this to Joe Zambone, and put in an excess of five thousand hours in testing of defence munitions prior to marketing (As well as sending samples about planet for "Real-world" testing) I do not understand why someone would utilise anything else. (In context).

The 117 grain .44 magnum loading was sovreign remedy for wild boar at ranges to 70 metres. Only complaint, excessive tissue distruction. Thus, was not a "Short-range only" loading.

Riiiiight.... :D

Here's a link to some 41 magnum Magsafe ammo. I don't know if they actually have it in stock, but it's worth a try. If I were you, I would call them and buy it all, because it's so hard to find! Sorry to ramble on. Here's the link:

I think that you have made a pretty good choice for a home defense load. I think that prefraged ammo is good for home defense.

Maybe I'm missing the boat here as I've done plenty of times in the past, but why are you using a large bore magnum cartridge and then worry about over penetration?

Use the Silver tips that have been suggested

If you ever have a round that you worry about underpenetrating?? just shoot them in the face 4 or 5 times and your worries are over :D
