I have decided to switch from my present home protection gun - an XD9 with a streamlight TLR2 attached, to something in .45 ACP with a rail so I can still use my TLR2 with it. I think I want something lightweight. Can you gentlemen suggest anything?

Any of the current plastic pistols should do the job. Glock, Sig, HK, SA XD, Taurus, S&W M&P.
The two that have gotten my attention lately are the Taurus 24/7 OSS and the M&P. I haven't heard much about the Taurus, but what I have heard has been good, and everyone I talk to in the LEO field really seems to be high on the M&P...
And for a home protection gun, lightweight should be lower on the priority scale, especially with the .45 ACP cartridge.
Hope this helped, good luck...

Well, the XD-45 will be a tad bigger
I suggest that you handle one (if you haven't already)
I love mine

Thanks, GW, but I tried the XD45 when it first came out and it was still smallish for me.
I also looked up the PT145 on the Taurus site and there is no such weapon listed anymore?

HK All the way

The USP is the way to go.

Cocked and Locked... 'Nuff said.

I had the Sig 220 and sold it....
I have been looking at the USP but cannot find any in stores...
If the M&P comes out soon I would like to look that one over even though I don't care for S&W customer service.
I also want to handle the P345 - looks very nice.
Any others I should look at?

I'm doing the same thing!

Except I don't think it should be lightweight since it won't be a carry gun. I want a full size 1911 with rail and light attached (maybe a laser, I'm still deciding). I don't want to spring for a Wilson or Baer or Brown that will sit at home most of the time, so I'll probably go with a Springfield or similar. I require reliability above all with such a weapon (when using hollow points) and night sites. Other than that, a plain looking, reasonably accurate weapon is all that's required. Just make sure you're comfortable with how it works. It MUST be second nature to you (which a 1911 is for me) because IF you do need it, you'll not want to have to think about how it works.

Well, if the XD-45 won't do it I'll suggest the Glock 30
Beefy, yet compact has a light rail and 10 round capacity.
And darn reliable to boot
