I need a "Combat Handgun"

Combat is an activity, not a device.

Pick the gun that works best for you, and practice with it until you can hit what you aim at with consistency. There's your combat handgun.

Well since he already has a P220; why not stay with the same calibre and go with a GLOCK 21 or the XD45? I have the G21 and my son has the XD45 and both are GREAT!! I'm not sure that I don't favor the XD over the GLOCK. :scrutiny:

Glock 21

A good solid reliable pistol that will easily handle the rigors of combat in the proven man stopping .45 acp would be my first choice.

wow

i'm surprised that no one so far has suggested this...get a Hi-Power.

if you aren't a big fan of the 1911, and you like double stack, you go with the other classic john browning design. extremely accurate, SA only, very high capacity mags available. and if you get a gunsmith to remove the magazine safety, the trigger is quite nice. if you don't have a lot to spend, the charles daly clone can be found for around $350. if you want a classic, track down an FN Herstal original.

after shooting a friend's, this gun is high on my personal wish list.

I'd take the Sig P220 into "war combat" anyday! If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

+1. Just buy some magazines if you definitely know 50 zombies are on the way.

Now, if you just want to buy another pistol, then get whatever you want. Another Beretta (used) would be cheap these days. As is a used Glock 17 or 22. Those would be on my list, but I try to stretch my pennies. You don't mention price so maybe that isn't a real concern. Anything that has been posted so far would be an acceptable pistol in my opinion. I think both Glock and Beretta are among the best for cheap and reliable magazines. You also don't mention a preferred caliber. I am assuming 9mm/.40/.45 are ok, but I have to assume because you didn't say otherwise. If you get an XD45 or G21, you at least have

And there's something to be said for having pistols that use the same magazine when one is zombie hunting. You don't want to run out of Glock mags with two zombies to go and have to switch, at an inopportune time, to your backup 220 that is stuffed in an ankle holster.

Not a "fun" answer that necessitates another gun...but I'd just pick up some 10rd mags for the P220. Next choice, a P226. Fits your criteria (and any holsters you have for the P220), same operating system etc.

to your backup 220 that is stuffed in an ankle holster.
Heh, anyone studly enough to ankle carry a P220 for an all-day zombie killin' will be OK.;)

XD, CZ, or GLOCK .. All will live up to your expectations ..

9mm unless you wanna spend a lot of $$ on ammo

Many good responses (I'm a Glock Guy).

Given your stated criteria, you might also want to take a look at the revived Cougar, now made and marketed by Stoger. I've shot one recently and was impressed. Has all the advantages of the original Beretta at a much reduced price. One disadvantage is that accessories are somewhat limited, but that should change in time.

I also like the Ruger P-series, especially the P-95. Another good value, with tons of accessories readily available.

My opinion, YMMV.

for me, the big double stack .45s (para ord, etc) just don't fit in my hand that well.

i'd go with a good polymer pistol such as the XD, Sig 2022, or Glock (latter don't fit me well but are darn good guns). capacity, reliability, resistance to torture, ease of takedown/maintenance are what do it for me.

is the reason that these aren't utilized by the military due to the lack of a manual safety? I remember reading about that once...

also, i don't think i'd trust those hi-cap mags in a "war/combat" situation. 13+1 in the XD .45 is enough for me. the rifle will be my primary weapon anyways... pistol is more of an afterthought.

There has been a bunch of good weapons listed. Either the Glock 17, or the XD make an excellent choice. For me it was the HK USPf 9mm with Jet tunnel and some 18 rounders. :D

HK USP9 with jet funnel and 18rd mags. Next question?
So +1 to whomever posted this! :)

Your SIG P220 is already a "combat handgun". You don't need anything else. Instead, spend the money on a defensive pistol class, spare magazines, and ammunition.
