I need a "Combat Handgun"

But it does sound like you *want* something else. In which case, get the most gun that fulfills your requirement and is fun for you.

a glock or an xd45 would fit the bill on the grounds of availability and function. i myself opted for my h&k usptactical45 its an awesome gun,12-1 rounds of 45 and is a very overbuilt weapon they are strong and can handle the hottest loads u can put in them.they can even handle 45super on occasion.also its recoil reduction system makes double taps very nice and tight, stays on target easier.

Well, lets see...

1. Double stacke magazine
2. Does not need to be concealable
3. Available hi cap mags.
4. Good options for accessories....

I'd go with my S&W 1917 revolver!

But seriously, I vote for the old 9mm Browning HiPower.

Going with a strictly combat handgun Id say Mark 23 but if you dont want to spend 2000+ stick with a usp 45 had one for years and wouldnt trade for anything!

A 9mm, of course

If you mean real war, where supply is a problem, it would have to be a 9mm as that round is available almost anywhere. As far as guns, my favorite is my Browning HiPower but Glock parts are more readily available so I might go that route.

CZ SP-01 or SP-01 Tactical (safety versus decocker) would be my first pick, personally.

In the polymer world, I'd feel pretty nicely armed with a Walther P-99, USP, or Glock 19 (I prefer the 19's grip to the 17, personally).

Any of those in 40S&W would work, too, I'm just more a 9mm guy.

In .45 Sig 220 would be my first pick, 1911 second, USP 45 third (but haven't tried the new USP45CT, which might change my opinion).

.

Your SIG P220 is already a "combat handgun". You don't need anything else. Instead, spend the money on a defensive pistol class, spare magazines, and ammunition.

Yep!

Glock 17 or 19. Affordable and they've replaced the 92F as one of the most common pistols around the world. You can get 33 rd magazines that are cheap and reasonably reliable, not to mention the 17rd standard mags.

Zombies? I have a theory their skulls will be soft enough to be downed by a .22, which is known for rocheting inside of people's heads, and theres no recoil, ammo is cheap, and many mags hold a ton of em. In that case, I'd go for a Ruger MkII or MkIII .22LR but thats a whole other thread ;) ...unless you consider a .22 a combat cartridge. Then more power to you.

TRL

I'm going to put in a vote for a Ruger P89. It doesn't have the best trigger, accessories are limited, but it is DEAD RELIABLE. When the zombies come for you, the most important thing is that it will go BANG when you pull the trigger, and a P89 definitely will.

You can also get big 30 round mags for it, were you so inclined.

I have 35 round mags for my P89. :)

??
?Because a gun chambered in 9mm isn't a real gun???

Telecaster, the insecure guys have to say such things, don't worry about it.

Good call Wayne! I get SO tired of all this "if it ain't a .45, it ain't worth shootin" mentality.

How about this absolutist statement:

"Any person who can't get the job at hand done with whatever firearm he has in his hand isn't a real shooter..."

oh, and this thing..

real Gunners use one of two systems:

1911 for 45acp

Browning Hi-Power / CZ-75 for 9mm or 40S&W

As I recall, Bob Munden, Jerry Miculek, and Delf Bryce use/used other "systems." If you're not familiar with Delf Bryce, check him out. http://www.donrearic.com/twodeadlymen.html

A dangerous man is dangerous with whatever you put in his hand...a pussycat with a 1911 is still just a pussycat...

Food for thought. :)

I would take the Glock 20 in 10mm if I thought people were going to be shooting back at me regularly.
