I need a high-mileage 9mm.

If you maintain your weapon properly almost all quality 9mm pistols from glock, sig, springfield armory, hk and most other manufactures will outlast your life with limited use of +p or +p+ ammo.

Until then, I'll have to remain skeptical based on the HK's in the past.

Hk's past? Are you serious, sure their customer service has been sub-par until recently, but they have generally built very durable guns.

I want to know where you people are getting these 100,000 round 1911s. I've built many 1911s over the years, and used to compete IPSC. After about 50-60K rounds we'd start to see frame cracks. Worn out parts are the least of the problem. The huge advantage of all the polymer frame guns is thaey don't get stress fractures the way steel and allo frame guns do. No secret here, they flex under load and steel doesn't.

You guys should have you frames magnafluxed if they've got that many rounds through them.

One of the reasons the Army went looking for a new pistol is that the 1911s in service were reaching the end of their life due to frame wear - they just couldn't be rebuilt any more. They were going to have to buy new pistols regardless.

GunTech -- I think that the fact that the newest .45 in inventory at the time was over 40 years old speaks volumes as to the durability of the overall design of the 1911. Of course they had to have had maintenance and worn parts replaced in that time. But how many thousands of rounds did each gun have to go through to reach the point of frames cracking? That's an awful lot of shooting in a military setting.

The guy that started this thread isn't looking for a .45 anyway. He's looking for a 9mm, which puts less recoil stress on a firearm, so his gun should last a heck of a long time.

As others have said, any 9mm from a major manufacturer (especially going up to the $900 range) should do the job. So, check a few out yourself and see which fits you best.

For me, best ergonomics is the Hi Power. A few times I've considered trading my CZ for one, but it is hard to part with a gun that I've had for several years and shot so many thousands of rounds through it.

For those saying CZ, I'm not sure I'd agree. For a gun you want to KNOW it will go for a maximum lifespan, CZ is a gamble. They are good guns, and if you get a good one I have no doubt it will go a long time (I stopped counting on mine a few years ago at 5K rounds). However, I see too many posts online, and know too many people personally, who have had trouble with their CZs to give it the complete endorsement so many people on THR do (and I used to). Heck, even mine has been far from 100%.

If it was me looking to spend no more than $900 for the best 9mm I could get my list would be:
-FN/Browning Hi Power
-A major manufacturer's 1911 in 9mm
-SIG 228
-SIG 229
-SIG 226
-S&W 39XX
-S&W 59XX
-S&W 910
-Glock 19
-Glock 17
-Taurus (yes Taurus) PT92
-Taurus PT911
-Beretta 92
-HK

-CZ and Ruger make good guns, but neither would make the list for me (I've had too many problems and/or know too many others who have to drink the Cool Aid).

If you want a high mileage 9mm, go with a Glock 17-19. There will be no other that will last this long I promise you.
