Hate to admit this, but I realized it this weekend: I am bored by guns, shooting, and reloading.

Friday night, I was going to load up a batch of light .45ACPs to let daughter shoot for a "shooting date" on Saturday. Got the press all lubed up and ready to go. Saw some old oak boards in the corner and decided to mill them down to 3/4" stock instead. Had a ball.

Daughter & I planned to go shooting on Saturday. I got jammed up (schedule, I mean) and so did she, so that we didn't make it.

Neither of us cared.

Sunday, same thing.

She was a little bummed, but got over it pretty fast.

Today, my day off, I'm thinking about going to the garage and finish my boards. No desire to load, clean, or even fondle the guns. Even computer gun stuff has lost it's zippity-doo-dah. Spent a little time hunting the various sale boards for a used kel tec pf9, but that's about it.

Do I need professional counseling? :uhoh:

Your alright...

Don't worry about it. I get that way from time to time. Usually around hunting season. Get my bow and don't touch a gun for 2 months and don't have any urge to. Do what you feel, don't force it. The gun rush will come back. Guaranteed.

Not even ten minutes old and I get this...

No what you need to do is let me pick up your guns and provide them with a caring home.

Grave robber. :p

Remind me not to post my home number. Better take my email off my contacts, too. My body won't even be cooled off to 96 degrees and you guys will be calling my wife!!!

Well, I realize there was more to your statement than this, but some might believe there is cause for concern based on the Kel Tec. :)

Psychologist: Take a sea' on da sewfa. Start by u tell' me vhy u ar' hear.

Quoheleth: I'm boreda guns.

Psychologist: Were u a pistol when u were leeetle?!

Quoheleth: Yeah...kinda.

Psychologist: Did you tend to shoot-off-at-the-mouth a lot vhen u were little?!

Quoheleth: Yeah, I useta could.

Psychologist: Vas ur fada a military man?

Quoheleth: Yeah, he served.

Psychologist: Vell, dares da probe-lem...you vere born a son-of-a-gun, an' u turned-into a little pistol. U shot-off-your-mouth so much that you got boarda gunz. So, chut-up, and go chooting. My bill is one box of .45 ACP. :neener:

I once put my guns away for almost 5 years -- then a GF asked about them and I was back into them again -- and have been going strong since -- my collection has more than doubled since
My advice -- clean them, lube them, put them away & do your own thing for a while -- when you get back to them, they'll be there waiting for you ;)

Naw it happens all the time. This is the first time in weeks I've checked on the high road. Its spring time and I’m on all the motorcycle forms and installing new stuff on my bike. Haven’t touched a gun in weeks. I even though it might be that I needed a new gun so I bought two, still nothing. It’s happened before and I always go back with a vengeance! So I'll just wait it out.

I tend to experience periods of time when I am absolutely bored to death of an activity. I like to work on cars, but can only handle small doses before it get too redundant. Woodworking can be fun, given the right tools and something creative enough to make. Guns on the other hand...well, they take a lot to get tired of.

It's good to get sidetracked from the norm on occasion. Continue your woodworking, then you'll appreciate your firearms and their care more when you realize in a couple of weeks that you forgot to clean that rifle or pistol before you put it up from the last trip to the range.

No, you need to mill more stock. Go out and get some quartersawn white oak...mill it...marvel at the figure. Buy something exotic like Cocobolo or Bubinga...And then find a creative project to make with said stock. Do nothing else until you've completed said project. Become one with the wood...feel the soul of the tree...
The point is, get away from guns for a while and immerse yourself in something different. I immersed myself in woodworking for a while several years ago (16 hour days) and swore if I cut another mortise I would freak out. I've been away from it and now find myself drifting back, missing it. The same will happen with your desire to shoot. It will come back - absense makes the heart grow fonder. Moderate your hobbies so none become passé.

Interesting how I find so many gun-enthusiasts have a crossover hobby in woodworking.

Shoot a lot of full pop cans and blow stuff up, and do it without ear plugs. Then you can go home, feeling like you were at a rock concert and you don't have to listen to your wife the rest of the day.

I was out saturday and finished up with ten or fifteen unprotected rounds from my Glock 23. Works wonders!

I get that way with my intrests as well. I tend to obsess with one hobby and ignore the rest for a while then move to another and then another in a cycle. I still love all of them but it's hard to do 5 or 6 totally engrossing hobbies at the same time. So I don't try, I just move on as the spirit tires of the one of the moment knowing that I'll return to each when the time is right.

Put the guns away for a little while and go do something else. They'll be there when the spirit moves back to this hobby.

You've got some wood? Make a gun rack. Make a nice custom carry box for the spotting scope. Thought about cowboy action shooting? Make one of those little carts they use to lug around the extra guns and ammo. That way, you are still into guns, just a slight tangent from the actual shooting. You have the interest in woodworking, so combine the two...then show pics!
