I need your expert advice and help folks.

Popped into a pawn shop today out of boredom because you never know what you might find and low and behold they have a very nice Mossy 590 priced 249.99 which IMHO seems like a great price, but I dont know much about the 590 series or whats a good going price on them used. IMHO I would say this gun was 95 to 98%, very few handling marks if any. It wouldn't surprise me if it was maybe taken out and shot just one range outing, its very clean. If it was not in a pawn shop and I knew it was used I could have assumed it is brand new. The only obvious flaw on it was for whatever reason someone removed the barrel bead. not a big deal really to me for a HD very short range intended weapon.

Ok, from what I got off the Mossy page.

http://www.mossberg.com/pcatalog/images/0250665.gif

#50665 590® 12 ga. Pump Action 9-shot capacity, parkerized finish, bead sight, 20" cylinder bore barrel with heat shield and Speed-Feed® stock. ...MSRP $525

is the basic model I guess, but from what I was inspecting today it appears to be this one, otherwise same as the main description ...

#50645 same as #50665 except blued finish and syn.stock MSRP $422

is what it appears to be as the finish is blued and it just has the non speed feed stock on it.

So, for 249 and what I consider a pretty damned good condition, what do you think. Is it worth that much, should I try and see if they would take less on it. The ultimate plan is to probably throw a Knoxx compensated stock on it and possibly thier Sidewinder Mag/Drum kit on it later. I am thinking this is a great vehicle to convert over some knoxx gear later.

Finally, is there anything I should be specifically on the look out for when looking at a used shotty. Im assuming its all there and almost 100 percent condition, but maybe theres something you can make me aware of and why it might have been let go of because of it.

Thanks so very much in advance. I really appreciate it.

Sounds like a great price for a 590. BUY IT
Note:590 have some plastic parts (trigger assembly and safety) on the 590a1 they are metal.
but it still look like a good deal. It is posible that theY miss priced it. If it were in my area I be buy it and I already own one. The lowest I see 500a go for is 230 on sale. last time I saw a 590 for sale was close to over 400 I dont remember the exact price

However if you plan to convert to a Sidewinder magazine feed system you might be better of buy just the basic 500a shotgun.
1slightly shorter barrel and no additional adapter part(need for 590)
2 cheaper than when compairing new 590 to new 500a

Read the article in SWAT magazine, I think 05 Dec issue, they have a write up on knoxx Mag. kit and a top folding stock

Oh one more thing BRING CASH it help

drug a buddy over there again just now thats home for the holiday thats in the air force and he said buy it, sadly i dont get paid until tommrow and didnt have anything to really put down on it for a days worth of layaway, he said though most likely it will be there tommrow, i figure this is a want and wyhm, i dont need it, but it would be nice to have and sounded like a pretty good deal probably not to be passed on if possible, so thanks so far for the comments, according to my buddy who looked it over extensively, he said its hardly been fired and its worth it, he would know as hes seen some really used and abused stuff in the air force, he was very familar with the shotgun too having been issued them before, that made me feel better

thanks guys

im hoping to report tommrow that it follows me home, maybe even a range report if im lucky
