IN the land of the blind the man with no eyes is the one you can trust with all your secrets

I know ill stay on topic!!

If not you, who? If not now, when?

I believe that our right to carry a gun is at the same level as any other civil right and therefore practice it openly. Where would any of our rights be if no one exercised them for fear of being harassed? Do you think that the world just smiled at blacks/women/gays/etc. when they openly went about doing what was previously not done? Many of you say you know it's legal and you want to carry openly but you don't see anyone else doing it. Well then why don't you be the "one" that others can see and join you?

Visit http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/ and you will find out that there are more of us than you thought.

<<<If open carry were legal in Ohio I would do so>>>

Open carry IS legal in Ohio (except in a motor vehicle, which is considered concealed). The state Supreme Court said so in 2003 and HB 347 (2007) clearly acknowledged the same.

Ohio open carry

PTK:<<<Do you have references? If that's true you just made my day.>>>

From House Bill 347, passed earlier this year:

The possession, transporting, or carrying of
firearms, their components, or their ammunition
include, but are not limited to, the possession,
transporting, or carrying, openly or concealed on
a person's person or concealed ready at hand, of
firearms, their components, or their ammunition.

HB 347 also put through State Preemption, eliminating any local laws in conflict with state law.

Also, from an earlier State Supreme Court Case:

Klein vs. Leis September 2003
Ohio Supreme Court Case
Acknowledging Open Carry
{¶23} …Because a restriction on the manner of
exercising a right necessarily leaves open other
means of exercising the right…
{¶24}…Further, the state correctly asserts
that the statute leaves open the ability to bear
arms by openly carrying a firearm…

There have been many discussions on the Ohio CCW Forum
http://ohioccwforums.org
and the Ohio portion of the Open Carry Forum
http://opencarry.org/

Note, that in Ohio, a firearm in a vehicle is considered concealed by the vehicle. There is no legal way to have a loaded firearm in a vehicle without a concealed handgun license.

It IS legal to carry openly in Ohio. That doesn't mean, however, that you might not get hassled by some cop who doesn't understand the law. In general, problems are rare, however.

I OC sometimes in downtown Cincinnati, it's kinda fun when the crack heads and street trash, go hey he got a gun, get looks, but lot of people don't even notice, now that I think abou it, the ones that don't notice seem to be the 'Good" people... hummmm ... But darned if they don't leave you alone and stop begging....
Even struck up a conversation with a guy, was asking me work related stuff, he noticed my OC didn't say anything, or ask found out later it was like the Sherrif's right hand man. LOL

Do you pratice weapon retention techniques enough to be pretty sure that if one of those crack or street trash rushes you from behind, they couldn't get control of your weapon?

Just asking, because weapon retention seems to me like a potentially difficult skill - espcially when you are gonig about your daily life (grocery bags in hand, etc). How do you practice it?

Actually thats why I like to keep to cc..
But Honestly, I Have been giving some thought to a retention type, Not sure I could find the right holster for a SW 39-2... I have the Fobus for it and am comfortable, watch for anything trying to come up behind me. Uually I wear baggy shirts, and beside being 6'4 250 with a flat top high an tight hairdo think that tends to fend them away. And if I need to walk deeper in the hood I CC, but around the friend's store, I'll OC.

OhioPaints,

I don't see an age restriction nor restriction on type of firearm. If you legally own it, you can carry it?

You must be 21 for a CCW license in Ohio. As to firearms, you are correct. The only limit in Ohio is no magazine over 31 rounds. For CCW, you can qualify with anything (e.g. a .22, which my wife did) and carry anything else that you'd like.

Our CHL (CCW) still has room for improvement, but in some ways it's better than some of the states that are well regarded. We don't have to worry about "printing", for example. And we are not limited to using only what we qualify with.
