Was This Poor Concealment or Open Carry

All I know he could have be Charlie Manson.

Again, what is with the over the top paranoia? I mean, really, you see another fellow carrying, and the first thing you think is that he is a nut job? Or are you simply not conveying your thoughts properly? Did the guy look shady? Evil? Nothing wrong with being condition yellow while you inform him. This really is sounding like liberal anti gun paranoia to me. I don't find fault with your choosing to follow your gut, just with the words that you have put down here. You did come seeking what others thought; accept that many will disagree with you.

If I happen to see any of you with your concealed weapon slightly exposed, I'll just politely and quietly point it out to you. I might even ask you what you prefer to carry. I'll not automatically write you off as a nuttter.

I see mall security as cowering dogs when a wolf is prowling among the mall-rats.

Oh no! I've heard something similar before...
If you want to laugh at somebody, try laughing at the sheep out there who go to the mall unarmed trusting in me to stand guard over their lives like a God.

Hungry Seagull has obviously never been to Gecko45's place of employment.

Point taken. =)

You should see the Smithsonian one time. When the doors lock and all the sheep shoo'ed out... that place locks down worthy of LAPD or any other PD mode at night.

Could very well have been an active (or retired~?) LEO.

Not sure if the OP meant it like this, but IME, many LEO have a different definition of CCW. For example, my neighbor will carry his issue pistol (huge) in a paddle holster under a tight tshirt to high school soccer games! There is no question what it is! I have seen the holster below cover so many times by LEO at a coffee house, I thought it must be some kind of rule.

Where I'm at, as long as the handle is covered its not a problem, so its ok if the bottom of the holster was showing like you said, at least thats what you thought it was...also knife
sheafs are the same way...did he have one of those small scanners in a belt holster, instead....?

A big Lincoln broke down with the hood up and 6 swarthy beefcakes staring at you in the backwindow on the rear seat IS NOT a place to be nice and stop to ask if they need help.
BTDT, although it was a Suburban.

With a little buit of duct tape, a gallon of 50/50, their hose got patched and they were on their way.

Concealed means concealed, and this guy wasn't concealed, apparently. What more can be said about the situation than that?

Do you point it out? I would ... discreetly. Do you call the guy Charlie Manson because he was peeking? Well, I haven't read anything in the newspaper to indicate that Charlie had broken out of prison.

We're well into how many pages over something simple here, folks? What's more to say?

I'm not religious, but I DO believe in The Golden Rule about treating others as you'd want them to treat you. Seems to be a pretty nice way to go through life. So, I would have discretely said something, because that's what I'D want someone to do for ME, if I were showing.

Assuming, of course, the guy was reasonably "normal looking". As in, he didn't look obviously crazy, or was puttin' on the thug act. A regular "Joe 6-pack"? Sure, I'll give him the courtesy of letting him know.

I said this once before

There are any number of threads in Strategies & Tactics in which the OP is approached by a stranger who hasn't yet done anything overtly wrong. Almost invariably the OP takes a defensive stance (sometimes hand on the weapon sometimes not.) and proceeds to order the person away.

Now, imagine what might be going through OUR OP's head if this guy did the same thing in response to the OP's approach.

I can see a few differnt endings to this scenario, none of them good.

So why, after reading all these threads about how any approach by a stranger is a threat, would i go out of my way to approach an armed stranger?

I was in Walmart with my duty weapon one day and had dropped my wallet while standing in line at the check out counter. I bent over (at the waist) and picked up my wallet and stood there waiting to check out. A man in his late 40's standing behind me leaned towards me and politely and ever so quietly over my shoulder asked, "Glock?"

Apparently when I bent over my jacket opened enough that he could see the bottom of my Foubus paddle holster and the muzzle of my Glock 17 just barely sticking out. When I turned and looked at him, he was smiling. I smiled back and said, "Yes" and then said "Thank you" as I adjusted my jacket. He said "You're welcome." Point taken.

With that brief exchange of words, we both understood each other in a very discreet manner without drawing undue attention. Luckily for me it was not some liberal soccer mom that would have screaming, "OH MY GOD HE HAS A GUN!!!"

This is a bit of a stretch, IMO.

There's a big difference between being approached by a Regular Joe in a well-lit, populated mall, and being approached by a shifty-looking character in a parking lot or on the street.

JMHO.

Holy crap, I can't believe how many people have said something to the effect of "I duck and go the other way and get my children to safety"...

This is a firearms forum, not Martha Stewart Living (yup, doublechecked).

Why would seeing someone carrying a gun, in a holster, in public, be justification for vamoosing? Sheesh!
So he carries sloppy. Heck, there's time I wear a Tee-shirt over an OWB and don't care if it rides up.

ZOMG! Dey can seez my gat! OH NOES RUN AWAY!!1!!!
Google, take me away from Fudd City!

Since there is no open carry around here, I'd tell him his glock was hanging out.

haha, nice one jenkins!
i too am rather surprised at the reactions some people have posted. i would prefer someone to inform me if i'm obviously printing or showing. obviously don't run up with your hands hoving around 3 o'clock, but if you walk up looking me in the eyes with a friendly expression on your face in a crowded and well lit mall, no worries. just say "nice holster" and smile and then be on your way.
