I saw evidence that Ammo Panic is easing

What was pre Sandy Hook pricing and what was the peak this year? Just curious. I dont shoot that caliber.

It is starting to show up in stores in MN. I hear from my range customers they are seeing a lot more on the shelves. Everything but .22lr.

I think it's looking up too.
Wally World yesterday had .45 ACP, .40, and .32 ammo in stock. I don't remember which .32 it was, I assume whichever is the most common. I don't know anything about that caliber.
But it's the first time I've seen .45 and .40 in a while.
Local gunstore has all of it, but he's a little pricey. Not crazy high, but about 30% over Wally World.

Local Wally world had (Federal?) 9mm for $13 (only 4 boxes though) and a larger stack (8-10) of the same brand .45 ACP for $20 the other day. No bulk .22lr. They've had .40 S&W and Tula (steel cased) 9mm for several weeks. ( I think the Tula was $10 or $11 a box (all boxes 50 ct).

Was .45 that high last year? The 9mm sounds about right.

There's normally pistol ammo in the case when I walk by, but only 2-3 different piles, which change by the next time I walk by. I need some oil, so I'll probably walk by the case today and see what's changed.

Last summer I bought 50ct boxes of 45 and 9mm for $9.50 a box so just over $10 with tax. They had a limit of 3 boxes and the sale lasted for a week so betwenn my wife and I we bought a few. They also had .40 for the same price but I don't shoot a .40.
Ammo prices from distributors has not really gone up much if at all. What you see in the store is a result of middle men jacking up the price or the retailer raising prices. I keep going back to looking at the major retailers like Walmart and their prices are basically the same as they were a year ago so the ammo manufacturers are still at the same price. I bought .380 fmj at Walmart for $14 which is in line with where it has been for a couple of years. That's the only pistol ammo I've seen there in months.

I agree the price is comming back down. A lot of the 1,000 rounds lots of 9m aren't selling because the asking price is too high and no one is bidding.

Based on what I saw this morning at Academy the supply is somewhat better but the line is still in the 30's with quite a few people pulling in just minutes after the store opens. Is it over. Not by a long shot. Too many shooters and too little ammo to go around. At least there is a glimmer of hope but I'm not expecting a huge change anytime soon. The 2014 elections are just around the bend and the fear will be with us again. My advice is stack it as deep as you can afford too because this fight will never cease so its best to remain prepared.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

It was an artificial climb in prices, driven by the market and people feeling compelled to hoard. just like the housing bubble, it's going to pop here pretty soon and prices will come back to normal.

I doubt it. I think there has been a long term shift in the demand curve. Prices will most certainly come back down at some point. But I think ultimately the big box retailers will be forced to raise their prices. An average increase of 15-20% can probably be expected in the long run. That is assuming production and importation levels stay the same. That is the real wild card.

I don't think there has been a long term shift in demand, but there certainly has been a long term shift in price. makers of any commodity crank the price up until demand starts to drop, hence how gasoline prices take $1 spikes and then drift slightly down.... then another spike after a couple of years and now $4/gal is baseline price never to go much below that. Demand and consumption has not dropped so prices keep rising.

Ammo will be interesting, the only way ammo could come back down is if everybody just stopped buying it and that's not going to happen. My Carnac prediction is cheap 9mm FMJ is never going to be much below $12 - $14/box in the future. .40 and .45 will probably always be in the $18 - $22 range.

Just like gasoline, everybody will gripe about and just keep buying it.

In looking at the pistol ammo on GunBroker just now, they had Blazer 158 gr. JHP priced at $159.99 for 250 rounds. They didn't say whether the rounds were aluminum or brass cases. :barf:

I bought two boxes with brass cases (100 rds) at a recent gunshow in Belleville for only $25/box. Cheaper than GB, esp. when you add S&H!!

I took a look at Gunbroker and saw that .22 bricks are going for the low low price of only about $60 now. 2 months ago they were $100.

The last time I bought 5.56 it was $145/1K for PMC and that was only a few years ago.

I am definitely seeing more on the shelves now. Pre panic I could find .223 for about 35$ for 100 rounds and at the peak of panic it was about 70-80$ per 100 now I saw some at about 50$ per 100

Are those typical listing prices by the sellers, or did you discover how to find out the actual sales transaction prices?

Being unable to learn the secret procedures for discovering any actual transaction closing prices (aren't many still confidential?), all I know is that about three weeks ago, on the first two pages of .22LR, most received 0 bids.

For those with an M-1 Garand or other 30-06, remember that the CMP still sells Boxer-primed ammo at .50/round.:)
But they are two-three months behind on filling any types of orders.

I have found evidence that the drought in the sahara desert might be easing up. researchers have found two droplets of water in as of yet an undisclosed area lol

I keep seeing plenty of supply, just at high prices. this leads me to conclude that someone is gonna crack and finally start bringing prices down. when the first big distributor cracks, so too will the rest. maybe not to pre-panic prices, but they are going to come down simply because people want to make sales.
