On a belt-fed, I agree with you, Darkman. 5-8 round bursts provide the best balance between controllability and suppessive fire. Although on an MG34/42, they tend to end up about 10 rounds because of the cyclic rate.
On a mag-fed, bursts are better kept to 2-4 rounds to conserve ammo, reduce mag changes, and increase aimed effectiveness.
But at a range such as this, most people aren't thinking tactical firing, they are thinking, "Boy , Isn't this fun!" Mag dumps are a gas...
