I Succumbed To the XD

XD in .45

I just acquired a Ruger P90 in .45. But would have rather gotten the XD.

More firepower and a bit smaller. Not that the ruger is bad. Fits like a glove, I have had a P89 from (yeah 1990) so I am used to it. However, the XD looks good.

I'll be getting an XD soon. Last night, I took some beginners to the range, and rented an XD9 for them. They went from having some issues with my Glock 19 to being exceptional with the XD. It was my first time out with the 9mm (I've tried the .45 GAP and wasn't overwhelmed) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was actually better with it than my Glocks.

You know, Buzz Knox, I found out the same thing about XDs shooting better than Glocks (for me anyway). I mean I shot pretty well with G-17s and G-19s that I've had, but the XD-9 just out-shot the heck out of the Glocks. I think that it is the grip angle on the XDs that I like. Thing is, my Glocks are now gone and I now have two XDs (a service model 9mm and a brand new Bi-tone sub-compact 9mm).

My only real gripe about the glocks are the u type sights, i can't stand those things, and the grip angle feels funny in my hand, but all around on every other aspect they are awesome weapons.

Congrats. I love the XD. Used to own a Glock 17 but you could not pay me enough to trade back from the XD platform. A great pistol, no doubt.

Another XD owner patting you on the back.

I've got a glock21 too and I certainly wouldn't get rid of it, but the XD gets carried more and does more duty in the truck than the glock.

The trigger is fantastic, the grip rocks and I have no complaints about the sights at all. I have about 700 rounds thru mine at this point, another 100 or so coming up on saturday.

:cuss: I have got to quit reading these forums, I wan't an XD so bad I can taste it :) Once I found out Springfield was comming out with the XD in .45 ACP I was very excited, was going to get a .357 sig before, still may too keep the .45 company :D Anyway congratz on your purchase. I will be bragging about mine once I get one.

I GOT HOSED

Here's the saga.

I bought an XD9 V-10(ported barrel) for $499. I was told upon purchase that I could buy an aftermarket slide and barrel to have the option. I called Springfield, they infrormed me that they did not sell slides or barrels. I went back and traded it straight up for a service silver/black model. I put less than 50 rounds through a brand new pistol and traded even for the used one that they gave me.

I watched Steve from "Gary's Gun Shop" put it in the case for $479 while they handed me a $425 gun.

What I am getting at is this, I have no idea this guns background, the previous owner coulda shot a billion rounds through it and traded it in. I am still burned every time I pick it up, but is there comfort in Springfield quality?

I've looked at the XD 45ACP several times at a local shop now and REALLY like the thing overall. It is quite possible it may be my next "45" when the money comes around. One thing I need to research is the longevity of the rear frame rails, seeing as they are polymer, and some other small things that are on my mind about the design.

How hard is it to conceal a compact XD? I'm looking for a good CCW gun and having a hard time.

Thanks

Not trying to start a war or arguement with you, but did you know it was used when you traded your new gun for it? There was a pretty good article in a recent mag (forgot the name), and they put a service xd9 through a 20,000 round torture test (mud, ice, water, sand, run over by a truck, something else I can't remember) and it never skipped a beat. :)

I recently got my xd9 Tactical OD(two 10 round mags, damn Cali) and so far I have put about 800 factory (WWB) rounds through it and about 100-150 reloads, with NO issues at all :D I'm very happy with it.

Dry firing it over snap caps, all I can think is if this was imported 20 years ago we'd be asking "Gaston who?"

Um, doubtful...

that is what first grabbed my attention and, is ultimatly why I bought it in the first place, and I can't forget to mention that springfields customer service is awesome! I am almost at the 2000rd mark in 7 months and have used pmc, wwb, Remington Golden sabers, Umc, reloads, Hornaday xtp, elderado starfires, Hydra-shoks, speer Gold dots, and that is all I can think of right now! I haven't had a single gun related problem ever! now i am not gonna ever put it in the mud, or salt water, or freeze it, but I know if I put it through heck at the range I won't have to worry about it, and I don't have to worry while i am carrying it either, it is piece of mind i reckon!

I carry an XD SC almost every day in a Comp-Tac CTAC holster & it's quite concealable. Some of it has to do with dressing to accomodate & many times I have to remind myself to bend at the knees!

The thick grip of a doublestack is the hardest part to keep concealed. I want to try a single stack to see how much of a difference there is.

Congrats on the XD, but go back for the 45 :)

I really hand a hard time passing up the XD in 45ACP, but I'm at the point now with reloading 45 that I have only so much free time and reloading is about to where it cuts into my shooting time. I can buy 9mm ammo at a price I can't get .45ACP components for, so I've been shooting a lot more 9mm lately.

I started with .40, then went .45, then did the same thing you are doing moving to 9mm for cheaper ammo. I was at the range this weekend shooting lots of pistols and fell in love with my .45s again. That is one BIG hole at the end.:D

I guess you just gotta have both: the 9mm for cheap practice and the .45 for man's work!
