Well..after annoying everyone here with a ton of questions, I bought the S&W 637 last nite. I don't have any buyers remorse today, so it must have been the right decision. I'm going to give it a good cleaning and lub job today...hope I can get out to shoot this weekend.

Couple other questions...first, is it safe to dry fire or do I need snap caps? Second, who sells a decent holster and a REALLY good price (other than Uncle Mike's). I don't want to spend a dollar amount that's 1/3 the amount I spent for the gun itself.
And any suggestions on self defense ammo for it. I bought a box of Cor-Bon, because I use it in a couple other guns..but I'm not sure about a 38 +P

Thanks again for all the help everyone gave me!!

Congratulations on getting a really fine gun. S&W says that it is safe to dry-fire any of their centerfire revolvers. I have never had a problem with any of mine, and I don't use snap caps. I have a Bianchi 55L holster that is little-used that I could part with for a worthy cause and a bit of Uncle Sam's green. Send me a P.M. if you are interested.

I would suggest that you purchase some inexpensive ammunition for range work. .38 Specials with lead bullets will work just fine. I buy in bulk from Georgia Arms for my practice stuff. It is so cheap that I have just about quit reloading.

Let us know how the new gun shoots!

You got a lifetime keeper.....

I consider the Smith J-frame one of the most ideal self-defense weapons ever made. I've owned two Smith J-frames and found them both beautifully crafted.

I personally like Georgia Arms for all my .38 spcl ammo; they make several excellent loads, both for practice and self defense....AND at bargain prices.

I carry my J-frame in an Uncle Mike's size 4 pocket holster but am looking to upgrade here.

We'd like to hear a range report. With practice these little suckers can be deadly accurate. A fine all purpose gun good for pocket carry, glove box, or nightstand.

Nice choice.
