I recently picked up a used USGI stock for my M14SA and I'd like to paint it. I need some ideas for any effective camo pattern that's not to terribly difficult to paint using spray paint. I have some ideas, such as putting on a base coat of green or brown and then sponge painting on the other colors. More or less I'm looking for a woodland type and I'll possibly being doing a second stock for winter. Whatcha got?

My Century CETME that I painted a few months ago, and a target from yesterday (~75 yards, prone, bipod, ADI 7.62x51 ammo, iron sights).

Here you go, I used krylon and Rustoleum camo paints, then I went over it with 5 coats of Brownell's Acra-coat Epoxy finish matte (Because I spray the coats on very close together it came out glossy...I will be fixing that with 0000steel wool or very fine sandpaper soon.

I don't how to post a picture, but I've painted a few of my Sako rifles with Krylon paint. Post and email address and I'll take pictures and send them to you. Basically, I paint on a base color and then use pine tree branches/fern fronds to lay on the camo pattern. Seems to work well, I've had quite a few people ask who did the camo at the local shooting range.

OK, I'll admit it, I didn't do this.

It was done by a gentleman in Florida. He goes by the name of SkwidVishus.

I opted to try a Snow leopard pattern, afterall, doesn't nature do the best camoflauge?

While not exactly practical to try at home, unless you have an airbrush, this is some of the things that can be done.

And of course, it had to have character, which only a face could give it.

Here is a link to his album, there are some true works of art in there.

I appreciate the responses from everybody. Beautiful rifles, hopefully mine will be on par with those pictured. I'll post pics when it's finished.

Bob R, I think that camo job is a remarkable piece of art....great job!

I looked at that guy's site and, ya know?.....he's got more talent in his little finger than I do in both of my hands. What an artist!

The right one? I don't understand what you're asking.

If the link doesn't work it's because the server is being a pain in the butt. You'll have to copy the link, paste it in your address bar, and go to it that way.

I spent more time shaking the can than painting, but I wasn't after showroom quality....

I did this about 15 years ago while living in the high desert. Was I ahead of my time? Now it seems a lot of folks are painting rifle stocks.

here's mine

Spraypainted the dark colours first - then used leaves and cardboard stencils cut out like twigs to give me the random shapes and patterns when I overlayed the lighter colours

Used tractor paint from the farm store - holds up pretty well - easy to touch up when nessesary.

An old Rem. 700 I finally got around to painting the way i wanted to after getting together the funds for a new rifle for F-Class shooting.

With some added jute I think it'll do well in the late summer - fall grasslands of the Dakotas.

This is what it originally looked like:
