I never thought I'd say I wanted an AK, but I do now!!!

I always liked AKs... I've got buddies with PolyTecs and I got buds with WASRs... They were always fun... I've never liked black rifles to much. I mean, ARs are allright, they have a cool factor, but I really don't want to spend $800 on one.

I was looking through an older law enforcement mag the other day and spied ROBARs VEPR Ks. That looks like an awesome rifle!

I just have a few questions though, will it take conventional AK 47 stocks and grips? I'd really like one of the M4 style recoil reducing stocks and an M249 SAW gip.

I have to buy a Glock from a friend of mine first, but by august I plan on getting one of these VEPRs. Do they have standard AK irons? Is there a better iron sight for them? It's an AK, I don't want to scope it!

VEPRs do not accept standard AK stocks and pistol grips.

The sights are pretty much AK standard. Very simple, and I have never had a problem with them. In fact, mine were zeroed right out of the box. I have never touched them.

There is a better iron site available. I like the Krebs A2 style myself.

There is a way to get the Vepr to accept AK furniture, but it is a custom build and it is pricey. Krebs does that as well.

Robarm has a new adapter that allows the Vepr to take AR stocks. I'm putting that on my next one. (collapsible, probably just a standard 4 position). With the adapter in place you use any regular AK pistol grip.

With the VEPR (and just about any other AK I've fired), there is no need for a recoil absorbing stock/product. Just saying... =)

I wanted one, too --- once.
Really excited about it.
Then I moved to an AK Underfolder...almost.

Finally, I gave up the idea of getting an AK altogether. :banghead:

I traded my 75-rd. Chinese drum for AR magazines and found TRUE HAPPINESS!

I like ARs. But I have a .223 Mini 14. While it isn't any AR, I want a .30 before I get another .223

I believe they make a SAW style grip for the AK, What does the stock adapter cost? $30?

I don't know, I don't think it is for sale yet. But I've seen it. (I had their SHOT show demo at my booth during the last gunshow) it is pretty darn cool.

Two buddies of mine both have VEPR's, and I shot both of them. I was EXTREMELY impressed with the fit and finish and accuracy of the guns. I will be buying one in the near future.

If you guys are interested, I'm working on organizing a large group buy of Veprs from Robarm. I'll have more details and final prices in the next few weeks. If you are interested, let me know.

I cannot say enough good things about my VEPR.

I can outshoot most SA M1A1's with it.

Just purchase a PSOP scope to replace the scope that came w/ and purchased an extra 10 rnd mag, Course $79.00 for the mag is a tad high.

but this was 4 years ago, could have come down some by now?

The .308 mags are cheaper now. I don't know how much though. Word is that 20 rounders are on the way. That will be cool.

MMCall, PM received. I'm still working on the details. But it should be pretty darn reasonable.

I've had 2 different VEPR's. Both in 7.62x39mm, and both developed heavy trigger slap. Although fixable, I didn't expect it from a "quality" AK build. They are highly accurate for AK's, but another frustrating thing about them is they only accept their own stuff. Stock sets, etc. Krebs can modify that slant cut receiver for you to accept regular furniture, however. Remember they have a 1.5mm stamped RPK receiver, so not everything will fit the same.

They are cool looking, though.

one thing to remember about the Veprs

the non wooden thumbhole stocked models have 10 US made parts installed.

i would bet the russian trigger they removed would not develop slap.

Homelandsoldier, that is an interesting setup you have there...

Did you do all those handguard modifications yourself? Is there a rail on the bottom? How did you set that up?

FWIW, I love the trigger on my VEPR. No hint of slap, and I prefer it to my stock ARs triggers.

All furniture mods done by me. A Dremel and a few hours of work. Done purely for looks only, not practicality. I am not the only one that has had trigger slap problems with VEPR's. Some do, some don't. The slap on 1 was worse than the other I had. One was fixed with a little buffing and polishing, one just got a little better. They were great "feeling" triggers, though. I mounted a 2" ALU rail on the underside of the forend to mount the TangoDown foregrip to it. This was taken off a little while after putting it on, didn't like it.

Same thing with the scope and mount. Went back to the iron sights, bipod, sling, and a drum. It started out plain, went through some mods and changes, and ended up as seen in picture 2, but without the foregrip. The first one I had stayed plain, just a sling. Ended up selling both VEPR's because of weight, the slap problems I mentioned, and lack of modularity, but overall opinion of them is good.

Thay are the most accurate AK's I've owned, that's for sure. 1 of them did 1 MOA with Win., and 1.75 with Wolf, but there was always the occasional flyer with the Wolf. The Winchester was pretty consistent.

I wish there was a vertical foregrip on mine. I'd also like to get the folding stock if it is ever released.

My ventilated handguard just came in a couple days ago. I added that and a sling... this is what it looks like now:

I bought my VEPR during the AWB. At that time, the non-vented handguard was the only one available. After the expiration, RA began working on a post-sunset package for the VEPR that included a folding stock, flash suppressor, and vented handguard. (the folding stock and flash suppressor don't seem to actually be out yet)

I melted my old handguard in what seems to be a freak occurance. RA sent me the new ventilated handguard for the cost of the non-ventilated one. It wasn't a factory option when I bought my gun, but I believe it is now. As far as I can see, advantages would be (maybe) slightly better heat dissipation, slightly less weight, and the sling swivel you can see in the picture.

I've never seen a .308 VEPR in person, but some people on the VEPR forum claim good accuracy with them; less than 2 MOA, iirc. If there were ever reasonably priced 20 round mags released, I would strongly consider one though, as it is much cheaper than an SA-58, M1A, etc.

Curious about the accuracy of the .308 version, too.

Especially with respect to the .308 Saiga rifles. Got my eye on one...
