I want to try your Bullseye load for .45!

My favorite load when I was competing in target shooting was with Speer 200gr LSWC bullets/4.2 gr Bullseye powder/W-W LP primers in new W-W cases. Although I would reload used cases with the same load. Would put 5 shots in the black with my Colt Gold Cup. Suggest you start at 4.0 gr first and work up to 4.2 checking for accucacy. Some shooters used to go with very light springs and use 3.8 grs, but my gun would not fucntion properly with factory springs. Hope this helps.l

With Wulff light springs

in my Gold Cup and 185 or 200 gr LSWC I've gone as low as 3.3 gr with no problem. Usually use 3.4 gr these days. A real comfy load to shoot, and accurate.

I shot 185gr Star LHPSWC with 4.0gr Bullseye with very good results from a Clark Premium Bullseye pistol (frame mounted scope mount). Precision Delta in Ruleville, MS, reportedly makes 185gr bullets from Star molds.

8 shot practice target.

200 grain Rainier SWC plated bullet
4.5 grains Bullseye
Federal 150 primer
Star-Line brass
OAL 1.257"
Does just a tass over 800 fps from a 5" 1911, and will cycle a standard 16# recoil spring.

Good Luck...

Joe

200gr hardcast lead SWC, Win, RP or Fed brass, Win primers, 3.8 Bullseye shortline, 4.0 longline; 11# spring for winter, 13# for summer, with a slide mounted dot, very tight, accurailed gun.

3.6 & 3.8 Clays are also very good as is the now unavailable Ba-10; also, V310 when you can find it and don't mind the premium pricing.

JACKETED BULLET:
Nosler 185gr JHP, 4.5gr Bullseye, WLP primer, Fed case, OAL=1.235"
**1.2" @ 75 Feet, Very Light Crimp.

OR

LEAD BULLET
Penn 200gr SWC-BB, 4.5 Bullseye, Fed LP primer, Fed case, OAL=1.215"
1-1/2" at 150 feet, very light crimp

I realize these loads are a little warmer than most use for competition, but I do alot of target shooting from 25 and 50 yards and these work best for me.....

See more load data HERE: and just click on the tabs at the bottom.

Best wishes and Merry Christmas!!

I've never shot Bullseye. Years ago it had a rep for being dirty. Has that changed? Tell me about it. It obviousely is good for target loads. They sell a ton of it. Everbody seems to carry it if they sell powder.

Keep the loads coming. Don't change the subject. Please add your thoughts on cleanliness of Bullseye.

here for Win 231. It works for me, with 200 grain lead SWCs.

Most important for accuracy besides same OAL, is to have identical taper crimp on each and every round.

4.0gns of Bullseye pushing my own pours from Lyman 452460 LSWC mold, (204gn), with PMC or WW brass and CCI 300 primers. 790fps from my Kimber Stainless II with 16lb spring.

This combination shoots better than I do.

(Bullseye powder is not near as dirty as Unique.)

I don't shoot competition, but I love 3.7 grs bullseye with a 185 LSWC. It shoots great out of my Springer, is mild and inexpensive.

.45man that's one sweet spreadsheet!!!

Old Loads
All with a 200 Lswc from Penn Bullet Co.

Bullseye 4.0
Titegroup 4.0
231 4.2
Solo 1000 4.2
N310 4.0

All of these are accurate at 25 or 50 yards, All cycle reliably with a 16lb spring.
I forget the OAL but its long enough so that 1/32" of the shoulder of the LSWC is above the case mouth, that makes for reliable feeding.

New Load

Trail Boss 5.2 gr 200 LSWC Penn Bullet.

Just as accurate as any of the above but cleaner less leading and less smoke.
As a bonus the case is full so you can see the powder and eliminate the chance of a double charge.

All of these loads aim for a velocity of 750 to 800 fps.

When I was using the .45acp in PPC competition, I used the following:

185gr JHP over 4.5gr of Bullseye (standard wt springs)
"....................4.3gr (target 11lb spring)

200gr SWC 4.0gr Service Gun w/14lb spring
200gr SWC 3.5gr w/11lb spring

Bullseye has been used to shoot most of the National Records with the .45acp.

Yes, It's a "little" dirty, but, I PREFER CLEAN SCORES over
Clean Bores.........
I can stand to clean my gun while "gloating" after winning.............

my favorite bullseye load is none at all. That is the nastiest powder I have ever used. I know everyone that grew up using Bullseye will have a cow over that statement. I agree it will work in a multitude of loads. I also believe it is outdated. If you take time to research your loads, you can find numerous powders that can be used instead of Bulleseye. Lord does that stuff stink too!

One powder that works well for me is Hodgdon Clays. I use it in all my 12 ga skeet & trap loads. I was looking through Hodgdons manual, and they have loads for 9mm & 45acp. It burns nice & clean in both shotgun & handgun.

I finally used up the last bit of Bullseye I had last week. I shot 200 rounds and looked & smelled like I had been shooting black powder.:cuss:

Let the flaming begin:uhoh:

"...Tell me about it..." Bullseye has been the standard powder for .38 Special for eons. 2.7 grains with a 148 grain HBWC.
In .45 ACP, my Colt likes 4.5 grains of Bullseye with a 230 grain cast bullet. However, that load may or may not shoot well in your pistol. No two firearms will shoot the same load the same way. You MUST work up a load for your pistol.
