Wife and I had a confrontation with a undesirable the other day. Had a guy and gal almost run into my wife and I from the rear. I pulled out on a empty city street, and before I even got up to the speed limit this guy almost rear ended me! Flashed his lights and horn, and shaking his fist at me. Then proceed to pass me in the turning lane, and tried to hit me with his suv. Then drove in front of me and slammed on the brakes and came to a stop! I stopped a bit behind him, and after a bit he proceeded on down the street. I followed staying quite a bit behind him.

After a few blocks he turned into the left lane to turn at a light. I had to come to a stop about three cars behind him and in the next lane. He then jumped out of his outfit and came running back to my car. He proceeded to threaten me and shouted " I will F******** Kill you the next time I see you"! He than spat on my hood, and ran back to his vehicle. My wife started to holler at him that you can't threaten people like that. I had to whack her on the knee to get her to stop! She was really shook up! We called the cops and relayed the story, and they agreed to meet us a bit down the street.

I am a CWH holder, and was carrying at the time, but it happened so fast I didn't even think of my 38, until after it was all over. I guess at 68, my reaction to the situation was way too slow! I put my pistol on the dash and waited for the cops to arrive. A very nice female police lady arrived, I informed her of my license and pistol on the dash, so she wouldn't get too excited. I asked her if she wanted to see my license, and she said no that wasn't necessary.

Gave her all the details including the vehicle license number. She took all the information and was about to leave when they called back on the plates. She then said she knew who the perp was and had dealt with him before! He had a record as long as your arm were her words! I thought we would have to go swear out a warrant, but she said that wasn't necessary, and then she said they would go have a bit of a visit with him.

We were a bit shook up for the rest of the day I can tell you. I really didn't react fast enough I realize, I should have been more alert! I certainly hope to if something like this ever happens again. We were very lucky that the perp didn't pull a gun for then it would have been too late. Best regards.

I have to ask - why did you place your gun on the dash? That doesn't sound like a very safe place for it.

Overall, though, sounds like the cops are going to actually look into the issue, so that's a good thing.

I think you "reacted" probably good enough.. he didn't need shot and you didn't shoot him.
Some things are best kept in mind though.

In Ohio, the cops prefer the gun holstered, or fully encased (glove box, etc), unless they request it, and hands where they can see them (dash or steering wheel, etc). Probably all states are a bit different.

Armed,I guess not

Being armed is more than a piece of hardware or a tool.

I am 65 and ret.LEO so I am used to confrontations.

If I see it coming ,I am ready to act,not react if at all possible.

reaction is slower than action.

I am always armed and that means more than having a tool, means [ to me ] the ability and mental training that is required to use the tools.

I also carry Mace [ ASR,as we refer to it ] and an impact tool also.

And yes I pray I dont need them, life is complicated enough.

You did OK. Stayed in the car, didn't react or provoke, called the police and reported it.

Now crank up your situational awareness, be aware of those around and approaching you.

ETA since we are trotting out ages I am 64 and also a retired LEO. I have had my fill of morons but if I have to I will deal with them I will if ADEE fails, I pray I don't have to.

Bikerdoc said it quite well. And it is true that, as scaatylobo said, Being armed is more than a piece of hardware or a tool. There's really nothing more to be said.

By the way, we generally discourage the discussion of road rage incidents, as the use of weapons is rarely if ever appropriate,
