Wow, great thread, and great ideas guys. I've always been fascinated by early auto loaders, and think some would be great, steampunked up a bit.

Steyr Hahn M1911 M1912 M.12 self-loading pistol (Austria)

I think that the Blade Runner pistol is a pretty inspirational piece too. Obviously more futuristic, but some steampunk influence for sure.

Man you guys are into weird and wonderful stuff. I had no idea of what steampunk was so I looked it up on Wikipedia. I guy could get hooked on this stuff. My thing is nautical antiques and old scientific instruments. I'd do up a shortbarrelled 12 gauge coach gun, sawed off at the stock with a brassy old-school pistol grip like on the early black powder pistols so you could flip her around and use the knobby end as a club. Maybe shiny brass sights and a scrimshawed ivory tusk forearm inletted into the walnut's side and bottom for a good grip. Something Dr. Watson might pull out of his coat when things get sticky.

There is a name for my weirdness....

I thought it was just me and my overly wild imagination :what:.. I was working on a project years ago that I would have never let out in the public eye.

A 1911 grip frame on a Blackhawk .45LC. Cool or what? I cut an old ruined frame from an old 1911 that had a ruined ramp job. Perfect for what I had in mind.

If I can find a steel grip frame for the blackhawk I just might finish it and post the results here..

Anyone out there have an old steel frame to donate??? I'd love to finish building the gun that has tickled my imagination for years.

Thinking of modifying officers model mags for a self contained reload for the .45acp cylinder.

How cool!!!! :D :D :D I'll have to photo shop a concept pic.......

Okay, first time hearing about anything "steampunk". Is that because I just turned 50? Anyway, very interesting. Could this be a candidate. I saw one at the local fun shop yesterday and I was intrigued. It's the Uberti 1873 Revolver Carbine.

I think an old italian pepperbox with some nonsense gears attached would be pretty epic, too.

It'd remind me kind of a steampunk version of a Star Trek Phaser with the almost horizontal grip.

The only Steam Punk I've ever seen was a keyboard covered with brass and walnut with keys from an old cash register.

Steam punk to me is adding some style and grace to a plastic world. Huge implants don't do it as much as a gracefull woman in a classic dress smiling at you.

That is my thought, to personalize without a gag reflex built in.

AND IT HAS TO WORK.

My $.02

For the purists, lawyers , over-caffeinated engineers etc... Fine.

Yes live steam in a real steampunk setting.

Mesh pictures of your sub-micro nuclear reactor or boiler that you're willing to carry around on your back. we'll call it a done deal. After all it's a branch of Fantasy.

For convenience sake, and any kind of mobility, a pressurized air tank would be an easier and more portable option, and likely easily swapped for a steam source when society collapses. (and if not nuclear and everlasting....would not require a constant source of fuel, rendering the weapon useless in a panic situation, beyond the need to get the thing up to firing RPM)

Either way, if you could get it working properly. A centrifugal gun is Completely outside of the function of any "normal" (combustible propellant) firearm development in the last century.

Happy ( or happier? ) now :p

(+1 for horsewhipping me for my inaccuracy )

No, compressed air would fit in, after all, Lewis and Clark had air rifles. Like I said earlier, make sure the tank has lots of polished brass and leather, with BIG gauges. :)

lol, Thanks for the defense.

It's all in fun, but now having found that little schematic, it makes you think.

I do also think that Mythbusters made an attempt at one, albeit on a larger scale than something you could carry.

Besides, it could be Hamster powered if you had enough gears.
