Wow ... that was simple. I'll send this info on to my sister, she lives 6 hours away.

Thank you for the quick response NightLord!
Its almost certainly a 19-5 as I dont see a barrel pin in the photo. That would likely make it an early-mid '80s production gun.

FYI, older model 19s are notorious for cracked barrel extensions when fired with large volumes of Magnum ammunition, especially those using light 110gr. And 125gr bullets.

Most experts recommend feeding them a steady diet of .38 Specials, with occasional 158gr. Magnum loads.

All good info NightLord. For now I think she is going to look for a buyer since it's too heavy for her to handle anymore at 70 yo with a bad wrist. She's definitely looking for something easier to handle because she still likes going bang bang around her property. That's why I call before visiting lol.

Kinda crazy the last 3 numbers are 666...any thoughts?

Good evening. According to what I could find in the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson 4th Edition, model 36 without a dash was produced 1957-1966. 1962 began with S/N 295000. The best estimate is between 1962 and 1966. This is considered an early J frame model. Very nice firearm you have there. God Bless.

I'm looking on the SWSC 4th Edition and it does not agree with you. The 4th change serial numbers end @220000 and they list the 5th change as 1907 - 1940 220000 to 261495. Your serial number is just under the end of the run in 1939 or 1940.

It looks like your gun is a .38 Special Hand Ejector M&P instead. Your serial number puts it @~ 1916 or 1917. I'm not sure because unfortunately the book lists that serial number set from 241704 to 700000 and 1915 - 1942, not more specific. Sorry I can't give you a solid date.

Hello! I’d be delighted to learn the year of manufacture of my Model 29.
A. .44 Rem Mag
B. 8 3/8” barrel
C. Square grips
D. 6 shot
E. Adjustable sights
F. Serial # S2065xx, this serial number is under the crane, bottom of grip frame is obscured by wood grips.
G. Model 29, no dash.

The M15-3 looks like 1972
The M36 looks like between 1962 and 1969. The range is 1962 - 295000 then 1969 -786544
Sorry, nothing more specific but if the numbers are linear your M36 is probably from 1966/1967

Just a couple of things you need to be aware of. First, barrel length is measured from the end of the forcing cone to the muzzle. Thus the Model 36 is nominally 2" (probably 1 7/8") and the3 Model 15 is 4".

The Model 36 is a round butt under those Uncle Mike's stocks/grips, and as you guessed, the Model 15 is a square butt.

In the first place, it is not a Smith and Wesson.
It is a European knockoff with a few S&W features.
Looking in the Zhuk book, it was probably made by Auguste Francotte in Belgium but might be a Warnant copy of the Francotte.
Ol Auguste went into business in 1805 and his company is still in operation, one of the better Belgian brands.

I posted my question (Date Please) 2 weeks ago.
Did I somehow offend, that no one answered???

If I have, please forgive my ignorance.
S&W 65-8 Serial CHT52xx

Thank you very much
