This is my first post, sorry if I do it wrong.
I have two Bud's police trades:
Both are .38 spl, 4"bbl, 6 shot, round butt, fixed sights
10-10, ser.# BKZ5902 207 on yoke, badge number?
10-11, ser.# CDM4921 164 on yoge
Thank you for your help in dating these S&W revolvers
tlrbmd42

tlrbmd42:
Model 10-10 .38 Military & Police heavy barrel BKZxxxx probably shipped in February or March 1992.
Model 10-11 .38 Military & Police tapered barrel CDMxxxx shipped in 1999.

Thank you so much.
Actually, the gun marked 10-11 has a heavy bull bbl. just like the 10-10.
Was the 10-11 mis-marked & is actually a 10--10?
tlrbmd42

Mis-marked or re-barreled. The -10 designates a heavy barrel, the -11 indicates a tapered barrel. So if your gun has a heavy barrel its really a -12, because by that time the -10 had been replaced with the -12 designation.

S&W Model 34-1 production?

Radagast, please, the approximate birthdate of a Model 34-1, serial # AWZ7597, non-pinned 4" barrel, non-diamond grips? Thanks.

Any info would be nice. I have a 38 special. Serial number is S848xxx. That's about all I know.

Berettaprofessor:
That Model 34-1 .22/32 Kit Gun was manufactured in 1987.

evan price:
1960 for that Model 10 no dash. The diamond grips were deleted in 1968.

Mayasopo:
That is a .38 Military & Police (Postwar) manufacture between September 1945 (serial number S811120) and March 1948 (serial number S978924). It has the pre-war 'long action', replaced in 1948 with the current 'short action', the main visible difference being the hammer. It has the wartime developed positive internal hammer block safety, hence the S prefix to the serial number, so it is safe to load with 6 shots. The pearl grips, if real mother of pearl, are both valuable and fragile.

I picked one up today that looks pretty old. Maybe someone can help me find the manufacturing date?

It looks small, maybe smaller than a j frame. It has a 4" barrel. It says hand ejector and a bunch of patent dates. It is "blur" 32 long ctd. The serial number is 264xxx. It has most of its old nickel or chrome finish left.

Tallball:
.32 Hand Ejector 3rd Model, probably manufactured 1917. Caliber is .32 S&W Long. Built on the .32 sized I frame, the .38 special sized J frame is slightly bigger.

mavracer:
A Model 10-5 should have a C prefix or a D somewhere in the serial number. The number you gave is probably an assembly number, not the serial number. The serial number will be on the bottom of the grip frame.

md_shooter_rick:
Your Model 686 Distinguished Combat Magnum was manufactured in 1982.
The m stamp indicates it was returned to the factory and a new firing pin and bushing fitted. This was due to a recall of early 686 & 586 revolvers.

dana345:
Your Model 629-6 .44 Magnum Stainless was manufactured in 2003. If it has a full length barrel underlug, it is a 629-6 Classic.

Gun nutty:
Model 586-1 Distinguished Combat Magnum, serial number AVExxxx dates to 1987. It is subject to a recall. With some magnum ammo the primer can flow back into the firing pin bushing, locking up the gun. Under the recall, S&W will pay shipping both ways and install a new firing pin and bushing. If the gun has already been modified there will be an M stamped near the model number in the cylinder yoke cut.

Model 586-2 Distinguished Combat Magnum, serial no. BADxxxx dates to 1988. It has the new firing pin and bushing incorporated in the design.
