Just got a nice glock 23c. If you don't know, the 'c' is for compensated. It has factory installed compensation slits on the top of the slide with matching slots in the barrel.

This may be a stupid question, but here goes.

I want to try this little puppy in my next IDPA match. I am pretty sure that I cannot use it in the stock service pistol class, even though it is as stock as a 'c' model comes. If I substituted the compensated barrel with a non-compensated, after market barrel, would I then qualify for the SSP class? Or, because I have modified the factory build of the gun by using a different barrel, will I have to shoot enhanced?

Maybe the gray hairs here know.

Thanks,
Mac

You can shoot a Glock in either SSP or ESP, but it will require a barrel swap.

Most shooters opt for SSP because ESP is (I'm really oversimplifying here) where most of the best shooters like Matt Burkett run.

I hate to tell you this duke, but Sevigny shoots SSP. And I would consider him one of the best. ESP is for single action pistols, ala, 1911's in something other than .45 ACP. Or BHP's.

The G23c would be legal in SSP or ESP with a barrel swap. The barrel swap would just make it a standard G23.

Hate to break the news to you about the G23c....

According to the LGB pages 10 and 11 which covers SSP and ESP. The factory stock ported/compensated barrel would not be allowed. NO compensated guns are allowed in IDPA compentition. You could replace the barrel with a factory barrel and depending on other modifications shoot in either SSP or ESP.

I currently shoot a G17 in both classes. To be legal in SSP, I must remove the dirt plug in the grip.

Don't shoot, I'm just reading what the book tells me....

John, I'm quite familiar with Dave Sevigny and his G34, I met him while I was at the FL IDPA state match. He's one of the best I've ever seen. I say most because I've seen USPSA limited GM's run in IDPA ESP with much success.

A good friend of mine is an M chasing GM and ran one IDPA match with no sights and still burnt it down. I know that Matt Burkett runs ESP - which is just one of the more popular pros out there.

I have had glocks run in ESP class with magwells and reduced power strinker springs. If you put in a frame slug you also create an ESP gun. ESP is not just for for single action autos Para P16's, browning highpowers and EAA witnesses.
