Wow, I just tried IDPA last month and I love it. I suck at it, but I love it and I am looking forward to more practice.

I'd like to compete with what I carry. I'd like to carry a G26 but I don't really thing that would be the best choice for IDPA.

Could I get a G17 or G19 and have a grip chop done down to the G26 size? Would that be legal in IDPA?

If not, I suppose I could just eventually get 2 guns.:D

You could do that however, it would put you into ESP. The 34 or 17 would be a better choice and you will still have the exact same "controls" as your carry gun (17, the 34 has extended mag release and slide stop).

Would second that....

I use a G34, and really like it....also use my G17 ----hard to go wrong with these choices, and you can stay in SSP, if that's what you want to do ---I shoot the G34 mostly, and my carry pistol is a J-frame...I don't really see a problem with this arrangement, although IDPA suggests that you "shoot what you carry", I've decided to shoot what works best for me in IDPA and for CCW ---I have learned a great deal about handling a handgun, moving and shooting, and accuracy and speed, and the best thing is, I'm definitely still learning...IDPA is great, enjoy yourself :)

You said it . Shoot what you carry. Why not get real good with your 26 then after six months to a year graduate to something else.

I'm new this summer to IDPA (Love It). I use my daily carry S&W M&P .40 compact. Similar in nature to your weapon. In my very humble opinion it takes considerable amount of skill to operate these CoF's with a compact.

I wanna be real good with what I carry.

I'm going to go the same way. I carry a compact 220 and will compete with a full size 220. Good suggestion.
