IDPA match the day I leave!!!

I just found out there is an IDPA match on the day I leave for a Christian camp for a week! If we (my family and I) time it right, we could go to the match, shoot it, then go on and drop me at camp.

BTW, if we go, this would be my first IDPA match. I'd probably be shooting a Colt Combat Commander 9mm. What's everyone's thoughts on this pistol for IDPA?

First question, is it legal for you in your state to shoot a pistol at your current age?

IDPA has junior membership for shooters of the age 12-20. Legal gardian must sign. At that age, legal gardian must be present at all times.
