Long time troller, first time poster.

So i'm in the market for a black rifle, but i'm what you would call "picky".

Here's what I want:

Gas Piston like (LWRC, et al)
Forward/Side charging (think FAL or G3)
NO rear buffer tube (top buffer spring)
Available in 6.8SPC or .308 (the 5.56 isn't enough for Wisconsin Whitetail)

I've seen some rifles that have some of these, the Para TTR, the RRA PDS, but most don't have it all. And I've only seen one that has the top/forward buffer (the TTS)

I'm not limited to AR style and I do like the PTR91, but really want something in 6.8. Also, I have seen the Robarm XCR and it fits all of these, but i want to know if you guys know of anything else.

Thank a bunch

Derick

Hi. Have a look at the Remington R25. Based on the AR10, made by DPMS. Comes in .243, 7mm-08 and .308. Not convinced the 6.8 is a great idea, just because the ammo isn't everywhere.

You'd have to buy two different rifles if you wanted 6.8 and .308 because the .308 is long and wouldn't fit in the magazine well of a 5.56, 6.8, or 7.62x39 AR.

I own an XCR and love it. Easy to clean, accurate, reliable, but took forever for Robinson to make it and ship it.

RRA just put out a piston gun with a forward charging handle and no buffer tube, but I don't know if they have a 6.8 model or if anyone is even selling them yet.

Interesting. Be cool to see a pic of the innards, if anyone has one of these.

From the pix, it appears that it has a charging handle on each side.

The M1A is a good idea, I never even thought of them...

I've already got a REM 700 VSS for my Stand Rifle, but i want something a little lighter for still hunting/stalking. The 24" barrel and her weight make it a cast iron deleted -- <Sam> to hump through the woods quietly.

Another for the mini-14 6.8

What about a Saiga .308? Of course the depends on how accurate it has too be but should do 3" groups with a scope or with a peep sight put on it.

Scar 17, or Para Fal. Although I'm told the Para Fal's are not as smooth shooting as the regular Fal's can't confirm this myself though. Either way the Scar 17 is the latest and at this time pretty much the last word in 21st century battle rifles. If your picky like I am FN does deliver, not cheap though, but not crazy either. I have seen Scar 17's for around $3k which isn't bad.

The Para FAL recoil spring mechanism is different (and shorter) than the standard FAL (where the recoil spring is in the stock, where it has a longer run), so yeah, it's a bit different :)
